Thanks for the report on the ground, I_B, and great to see DAT again!

Did you see where she tried to spin it as "out of context" and it came out so convoluted and blatantly dishonest, that it was ridiculous?  And she wonders why nobody trusts her.

And who would trust some nebulous "government program" to make everything right as rain?  Nothing ever works.  And then, just because you have new training, you still need a way to make a buck with it.  Gov't just never understands that.

Word I got... third hand so take it for what it is worth... is that when hillary proposed the x billions for retraining she was laughed at interspersed with calls of bullshit.  I wasn't there, so I don't know.   Exaggeration of stories is a hobby 'round these parts.  Of course the media would not report it if it did happen.

^^  That seems eminently believable to me, because that's the reaction I would have had if I were in the crowd.  Setting aside military or intelligence training, do you know anyone who ever got a job after one of these government training programs?

Never thought about it and now that I have... not a soul.   :cheersmate:

Hard enough to get a job when you are in your 50's in one's field of experience, let alone starting anew. Now maybe if the government would give healthy tax breaks to companies that would hire these people for say the first 5 years, that may have a shot at success.

I really do not have the answer except to get the EPA nazis out of the way.

I'm 51.  If I lost my job (highly unlikely, unless a felony is involved, which is not going to happen), I'd head to one of the local convenience store chains (Stewart's, for Carl and Karin) and apply there.  They're looking for people and starting hourly wage is $11 to $13.  I wouldn't be sitting on my ass all day.

I understand that. A job is a job.  I would do something similar. Anything to get an income stream coming in.   :cheersmate:

I was talking about a career type job. Companies now days tend to look at people in their 50's and not see experience, what they see is health care costs. Now put yourself in their shoes. They have someone that was in a factory job, coal miner, etc for 30 years, has been "retrained",  and they look at the  cost to take a chance on the person. In their opinion it is just too high.  Not saying it is right, just saying that is the reality obumbles has created.

Now if the economy was booming it would probably be a different story.  Unfortunately we do not have an economy, we have an O'conomy.   :banghead:

Or we could conscript the beneficiaries of public assistance into labor battalions to do all that 'Critical infrastructure work,' with the beneficial effect of learning useful job skills.  Sufficient political will could do that too, DUmmies.

If we could afford to train them to be semi-competent at their tasks, this might be a net positive. Add the costs of KEEPING the lazy clots on task and the re-work required until they get it semi-correct (for once), however, and I think this idea becomes cost prohibitive.  Cheaper just to spend the $0.09 on the bullet to their precious little noggins.

I'm over 62 and landed a 4 year contract in the central plains (God bless snow, ice and tornadoes) at a good salary on a job I don't need to be in, but the contract required.

I basically do nothing all day, get paid and will be employed until I retire. I do work on an out of date technology and there aren't many of us left which is why I got hired (besides I'm good at what I do).

I did, two years ago, take a job working hospital security at $11.50 per hour with tons of overtime. Any job is better than no job. Alas, the house I was in (after my girlfriend left, THANK GOD) and the expenses were too much. I was running a $700 deficit each month, but it bought me an additional 2 months till another job came through.
Liberals disgust me. (Now I don't have to remember to put it on each post).

Because only the left goes searching for that which is not there in a desperate attempt to be offended about something.

"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen." - Samuel Adams
