During the next couple of weeks, there'll occur two significant anniversaries of two events that brought much notoriety, embarrassment, and humiliation to Skins's island, utterly destroying the message-board's good name and reputation.

Saturday, April 30, circa 3:30 p.m. central time, will be the eleventh anniversary of the beginning of the scam that rocked the internet.

Thursday, May 12, will be the tenth anniversary of the Bostonian Drunkard's Fitzmas orgy.

What's always been odd about both events is that they could've been avoided if Skins had wielded his ban-hammer, first on poor stupid Beth and then later on drunken Bill, thus sparing his real-estate much misery and loss in public reputation and goodwill.

To this day, one wonders why he didn't, because surely like us he knew from the beginning they were both fraudulent, and whose denouement wouldn't look good on him.

Sounds like someone needs to visit the wayback machine so folk can actually read about it.  I am not sure how much is available
since CU had several crashes IIRC during that time period and I don't know how far back the 'wayback machine' goes.

Those are some of the original archived FR threads.  It's a good primer to give you the idea of what was going on.

The whole thing even got Will Pitt to sober up long enough to come to CU to try and defend Andy.  He didn't stay long though.

I was looking for an example of one of my DUmmie ALERT!S as posted in P-J Comix's DUmmie FUnnies covering the embarrassment, to which txradioguy referred, but not finding it.

It's here, in the DUmpster or the DUmping Ground, but I can't find it, a good example.

Anyway, I don't think you realize that you're asking for a superhuman lot here, an archive or timeline.  It would take months and months to put all of the pieces together, so no one, including even those of us intimately involved, even ever tried.

However, every year we've had a special thread marking the anniversary of the scam, and they're all here.  I'm not inclined to track them down and list them here, but here's a couple of good examples:

Wow.... about all I have to say after an hour and a half research into this slimy story. That Andy fellow and his female cohort... some blockbuster movies aren't close to being as interesting.

Sad thing is this played out at a few websites (FR especially) and breezed right past me without me noticing it once.

That was actually the biggest thread in the DUmmie FUnnies, but was deleted by the owner of freerepublic because I, franksolich, had posted a photograph of the sensitive piano-playing lad "goodboy" making nice-nice with Ken Blackwell, at the time the Secretary of State of Ohio.

The sensitive piano-playing lad whined about it, catching the owner of freerepublic during one of his capriciously moody times, who deleted the whole entire thread--thousands of comments--and gave me Hell for it.

I could never figure it out, but anyway, the owner of freerepublic didn't care much for the DUmmie FUnnies.  Never mind all the traffic they generated, and the spillover into other parts of the message board.  He didn't like them, and that was that.  Some people don't recognize a good thing when it slaps them in the face.

I was just a spectator at Conservative Underground in those days and what a spectacle it was! As near as I could figure out a number of dummies and freepers came to CU to argue it out for whatever reason.  I think that thread went almost as far as the dainbramaged thread did here.  If I remember correctly Andy's boyfriend... think his name was termite?... came over to CU to defend him.  Toward the end the CU members just sat back and watched.

The Fitzmas story, in my opinion, was even better. PittStain, huge member at DU at the time, could not swallow his pride and admit that they had the wrong info about VP Cheney and doubled and tripled down on it.  Best part was when pittstain said special prosecutor Fitz-whatever-his-name-was told Cheney he had 24 hours to get his affairs in order before being perp walked out of the white house to federal prison.

24 hours passed and no perp walk of a sitting VP. This was on a Tuesday if I remember correctly.  Then Pittstain said it was 24 business hours... ie 8 hour days so the perp walk would be on a Saturday to "minimize a media circus".

Like a perp walk of a sitting GOP vice president would not have a media circus.

Cost pittstain his rep at DU and his buddy reporter... I forget his name, something Leopold, (Justine? Jason?)   his reputation as a professional journalist.  Several months after that local liberal rag here ran an Op Ed by him in the Sunday paper. Several people wrote into the paper laughing at their so called journalist.  He was pretty much blacklisted from mainstream papers after that.
