HOUSTON � A 19-year-old Texas man is dead after police say he accidentally shot himself while posing for a selfie with a gun.

Deleon Alonso Smith died of a gunshot wound to the throat about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at an apartment in southwestern Houston.

Investigators say Smith had found a gun and was taking pictures of himself and a cousin holding the weapon and posting them to online when the gun discharged, killing Smith.

Investigators say the cousin was in another room when the gun fired.

First of all, you can't take a selfie with a gun. You can only take a selfie with a camera. But thank you for thinning the herd.

Some moron in Houston accidentally offed himself while posing for selfies with a gun. Now, USUALLY DU takes great pleasure in their "Darwin Awards," given when someone gets hurt or killed in the commission of stupid acts.

Here's a whole gleeful thread about a Mainer who killed himself with fireworks, and it wasn't hidden, in part or in whole.

Golly, I wonder if we can figure out why DU would now HIDE a Darwin Award? Hmmmmmmm. Maybe if we knew more about the circumstances of the incident...

My thoughts exactly.  Anyone who, without some truly unusual cause, chooses to assault someone else who is armed to the point that the victim is forced to used the weapon to prevent grievous bodily harm really ought to be right up there in the standings.
