Then there is this heretical post that actually STANDSThere is no meltdown on DU because of this post (Because they know it is true). Just more denial.
The reason it actually stands is that it supports the party line that Gore lost because of Nader. Their thinking is not that it didn't matter because Bush would have won anyway, but that the Green Party being on the ballot cut down the DemonRat turnout. The fact that Bush won the popular vote doesn't signify to them, since their belief is that Gore would have won the popular and electoral vote but for Nader.
It's an imponderable, of course, and no way to know whither the truth of the matter is. There were other parties on the ballot besides the Greens, on both ends of the spectrum, so no doubt Bush and Gore both lost some votes to them as well, and the Cubans were still pissed over Elian, a special circumstance for that particular state, with small-l libertarians who might have voted for Gore otherwise also being wary of the widespread abuses of the Clinton/Gore administration's DOJ. The Green voters were very unlikely to vote for Bush, but it's
very far from a closed case that they would have voted for manbearpig. Since there is no way to prove what the outcome would have been, you can count on the ignorant and stupid DUmmies having unshakable religious beliefs on the subject that no amount of actual historical analysis can shake.
