Gawd. pitt is a moron.
Every book about the surrender at Appomattox Courthouse states that Grant met Lee at Lee's request.
Lee bore no "terms" that he submitted to Grant.
Lee's biggest concerns were to get his hands on rations for his troops.Aa supply train had been captured.
And the biggest/best:
Grant, not Lee, offered terms that, for the time and the type of war that had been fought, were very generous, very civil. And were offered to the Army of Northern Virginia only. At the time. As Northern Virginia was the most active theatre, the collapse of Lee's army after the Siege of Petersburg pretty much ended most of the fighting. The rest of the South's Armies were still in active insurrection (or, as we Yankees termed it, getting their asses handed to them). One by one, they each capitulated over the coming months culminating in South Texas.
