Anyone ever been asked for photos of your ID and Social Security card, when filing taxes online?

This has been the most ridiculous tax season of my LIFE!!

5. This is a site I found a link to at IRS.gov! esmarttax is their name.

It's been insane. They rejected my return with no reason, then locked me out. I get unlocked and was told I need to send the ID photo.

I sent them one. Two days ago.

Today, I live-chat with someone on the site, and they say to send a clearer photo of the ID, plus a photo of the SS card. Then locked me out again!

I'm wondering if I should contact the IRS and advise them not to link to these idiots anymore

7. Was it an ad?

It sounds like you've just experienced an identity theft. No one ever asks for a copy of your SS card when doing taxes. Ever.

8. Yeah, you might want to call IRS.

I've been doing taxes online for years. I also do them for other people. I do buy my program though. However, I have never ever had to provide ID for anyone's taxes that I have done and if your return is rejected for some reason, they send you an email telling you the reason why it was rejected. Sounds more like a bit of forced redistribution of the DUmmies "wealth".   :lmao:

C.S. Lewis

A community may possess all the necessary moral qualifications, in so high a degree, as to be capable of self-government under the most adverse circumstances; while, on the other hand, another may be so sunk in ignorance and vice, as to be incapable of forming a conception of liberty, or of living, even when most favored by circumstances, under any other than an absolute and despotic government.

Unheard of.
A bouncy if I ever heard one.
There were only two options for gender. At last count there are at least 12, according to libs. By that standard, I'm a male lesbian.

Sounds perfectly legit to me DUmmy.

When they contact you next time requesting your ATM card# and PIN, don't worry.  It's needed when they process your tax return and pre-qualifies you for a direct deposit of your refund.  Just log on to your bank every few hours to check your balance so you can see when your refund is deposited.

By the way, two months hence will be the 10th anniversary of the scam that rocked the internet.

But as that's been so long ago, and there's so many new people around who know nothing about it, I dunno how we're going to commemorate it.

But the anniversary will be noted, in some way.

Too bad it couldn't coincide with the great Doug Bulna scam.

And May 12 is the ninth anniversary of Fitzmas.
