Supposedly the last election was very bad news for GOP

-snip-
A GOP strategist, columnist at the Houston Chronicle who goes by the handle GOPLifer, Chris Ladd, has declared that the week of the Midterm Elections “was a dark week for Republicans, and for everyone who wants to see America remain the world’s most vibrant, most powerful nation.” What the HELL! Where was he?

In a careful analysis, Ladd builds a case: The Midterms of 2014 demonstrate the continuation of a 20 year old trend. Republicans are disappearing from the competitive landscape at the national level where the population is the largest utilizing a declining electoral base of waging, white, and rural voters. As a result no GOP candidate on the horizon has a chance at the White House in 2016 and the chance of holding the Senate beyond 2016 is vanishingly small.

1. just pointing out the long-term demographics are not good for republicans. this is why they continue to amp up money in politics, the lies, and voter restrictions, the stealing, etc. you know, their core competencies and their competitive advantages.

Anyone trying to spin the total wipeout that we experienced this year as something other than a strong victory for the GOP has their head in the sand. This outcome was simply brutal, worse than all but the most pessimistic (myself included, and I was very pessimistic) expected.

If you're putting your eggs in the demographics basket, you're going to be waiting an extremely long time for it to come to fruition. You may not see it in your lifetime, and there are many ways things could go wrong for that strategy between now and then. Not the least of which, by the time that time rolls around, who knows if we'll even recognize the Democratic Party? I've seen such a massive change in just the last 25 years or so, I'm not sure that I recognize it now (e.g. when did war and Wall Street become popular...?)

If you're putting your eggs in the "Blue Wall" basket, go ahead and count up how many of those states turned out GOP victories on the statewide level this year. Some of the bluest of the blue elected GOP governors, including rock-solid states like MD and IL.

That "Blue Wall" is an artifact of a series of extremely bad GOP candidates in the post-Reagan era - it is not something anyone should be predicating future strategy on. If the GOP ever nominates a candidate who is less than completely odious (granted, it's been quite a while), that "Blue Wall" will be shown to be little more than a bloc of New England states.

There is one winning strategy which does not simply depend on the opposition's failures - that is to identify the issues that really matter to the largest segments of the electorate, and position the party correctly and steadfastly on those issues.

The election was racist.
So much so that dyed in the wool race baiters are now making some sort of sense on isolated issues...

I hate it when libs who are known racists make statements I tend to agree with.
It casts doubt on my conservative self confidence.
There were only two options for gender. At last count there are at least 12, according to libs. By that standard, I'm a male lesbian.

News flash, Democrats, that dying-off generation contains the heart of union support, and that new-adult population you're counting on to be youthfully stupid is more Libertarian than Democrat (Infused with plenty of stupid ideas, to be sure, but they don't necessarily align with your own party's stupid ideas), and they don't like having their pocket picked to fund your mega social programs any more than their parents or grandparents did.

Chris Ladd sounds like a very liberal fellow (or maybe he really is a democrat);

Chris Ladd is a Texan in exile. After growing up in Beaumont and working for more than a decade in Houston, he moved to suburban Chicago, where he is a Republican precinct committeeman.

He has a day job that he loves in the software industry. In his free time he has written for David Frum’s blog, the Washington Times Communities, the Houston Chronicle, and the Huffington Post.

Back in Texas he interned at the Legislature, worked on numerous state and local Republican campaigns, and volunteered for a statewide PAC. Chris graduated from Beaumont’s Central High, earned a degree from Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas (the Harvard of Williamson County) and received his JD from the University of Houston.

Name and bio sounds like a concern troll to me.

Sounds like a concern troll to me, too.  I don't know how he's getting any column space, because he makes no sense.  Sounds like a DUmmie.

You know, I hear a lot of this all-eggs-in-the-demographics-basket.  It's not sound strategy, but they just can't help themselves.  People must be put into pigeonholes no matter what.  Sometimes they don't stay where you put them, though.

I do hope they keep thinking that way! The old, smelly hippies are dying off. Generationally their children are more conservative than they are...it's the only direction they can rebel, as each generation does. The majority of the country hates their policies. It's why they always have to pretend their policies are something they're not and couch them in deceptive language.

The odds of the dems being able to win what is essentially a 3rd term is pretty close to nil. Some of the most costly & devastating parts of 0bamacare are kicking in. The economy still stinks and the workforce is still shrinking and our workers are being replaced my illegals, since, thanks to a loophole in 0bamacare, employers don't have to pay for their health insurance. Saves them a few thousand dollars. Gas prices my be going down but with the reduction in coal home heating will go up.

Polls always, always skew in favor of 0bama. Always. He's not as popular as they think. If they elect Elizabeth Warren, she'll become the new Wendy Davis, Cherokee Abortion Barbie. Hillary isn't liked by anyone, including democrats. And one commercial with "What difference does it make" with our embassy burning in the background and a reminder that she was the one answering that 3am phone call and she's toast.

Every American, except those on the left, want America back on top again. But I'll enjoy their tears.

Jeez, it is the exact opposite.  Liberals are the dying breed.  Lots of younger conservatives than libs and the millenialls are trending independent & libertarian.
