Stunning Ignorance at the Polling Place


I just finished voting, and I'm pretty ticked off by my experience. I get to the voting room and the girl in charge of handing out ballots says, "I need to see your I.D." I said, "I don't need an I.D. to vote." She then repeats that I need an I.D or I'll have to do a provisional ballot, and I double down in my original statement. Dude on the other side of the room takes a second away from chomping on the pizza provided for poll workers and says, "You have to have an I.D. to vote." I respond to him very angrily, "NO, YOU DON'T." Finally, the third person sitting there pipes up and says, "He's right. You don't need an I.D." They finally allowed me to give my information and vote.

It was already saddening, but here's the kicker... all three poll workers were black. I was completely blown away. I felt like tearing into the other two and asking them if they had any idea how important it is to not have to show I.D., and specifically WHY it is so important. They obviously have no idea how many minority and elderly people have lost their chance to vote this year, specifically because of voter I.D. laws. You would think the people running the operations would have told them in no uncertain terms, you do not need a photo I.D. to vote,. although they should have been paying attention enough to know the rules. Why must the average citizen tell poll workers about voting requirements?

Obviously, this type of thing is going on in LOTS of places, and a lot more forcefully than in the city of Chicago. I want to clarify here too, I'm not calling the poll workers out for being black. I'm calling them out for being in an often marginalized group and not educating themselves enough about the criticality of their responsibilities. I wonder how many thousands of people will be wrongly turned away from the polls or given provisional ballots due to poll worker ignorance, whether they are black, white, Hispanic, Asian, etc.

so DUmmy, exactly why is it so important not to have to show an ID to vote?

If they can use that same ID to apply for welfare, why can't they bring it with them to vote? I think the purple finger thing along with ID is good, too. If it's good enough for poor Afghanis who also have to contend with the possibility of bullets flying over their heads then our citizens can surely manage to find a way to get an ID. If the Dems were that concerned in states that require ID, they could start a nonprofit that would profide funds/rides, etc. to the DMV and pay for the ID.

This is so stupid. Everyone has an ID. The government won't mail SS checks any more because of the risk to seniors. They only do direct deposit. There isn't a bank anywhere that will open an account without ID. I'd like to go back to when we only had one day for voting. It's not just a right, it's a resonsibility. If it's important to you, you'll make the effort and find a way. Like the people in Afghanistan who were threatened with death if they showed up at the polls.

The only people in this country who have to be afraid are whites who have to vote at polling places with Black Panther monitors. They could hold white voters at gun point, stand in the booth and force them to press the "D" button and Eric Holder still wouldn't prosecute "his" people.

Race is all that matters to liberals.  The DUmmie thinks that black people are ignorant and should let anyone vote that is their better, i.e. white.

There was a guy walking out who'd just voted; I happen to know he's of Norwegian derivation.

There were five women working in the polls; I happen to know three of them are of Norwegian derivation, one of Danish derivation, and one of Swiss derivation.

I was the only voter present when I voted, and being mainly of English and Slovak derivation, I'm wondering if they bothered counting my vote.

I voted at 7:30 this morning.  Didn't count to see whether people were white, black, male, female, etc.  Just wanted to go mark the ballot & get on my way, not evaluate everything for the possible political, societal or social impact.

When there's fewer people around, it's easier to keep track.

As a matter of fact, in Illinois, it is illegal for a poll worker to even ask for ID.

Pretty sad. Found that out when I voted. Was asked for my Voter Registration card. Didn't have it with me. Offered my DL for identification and the clerk stated that was fine, but she could not ask for it.
