He's been there before, many times.
You know, my good friend Doc may be an observant of Judaic beliefs and practices, but he's reasonably typical of many "secularized" Jews; I know some.
Many of them have some sort of nonsensical desperation to be "assimilated" into American society and culture, and they don't feel they're "assimiliated" because they're, well, of Judaic derivation.
And so they hide or denigrate their background. And if that's still not enough to make them feel "assimilated," they go one step further and associate with those who hate their kind, so as to prove they're "assimilable."
It's all an utter crock of shit, this fear that they're not "assimilated." Those of Jewish beliefs and practices are accepted as legitimate and valuable parts of American society, history, and culture.....at least in the political party not the one my good friend Doc belongs to.
