JaneyVee (8,559 posts)WTF?! Jimmy Carter flip-flops on marriage equality.Former President Jimmy Carter no longer believes that marriage equality should be legal nationwide.Carter, who announced his support for marriage equality in 2012, told a Texas news station in an interview broadcast Sunday that he believes the issue should be left up to individual states.“I’m kind of inclined to let the states decide individually. As you see, more and more states are deciding on gay marriage every year. If Texas doesn’t want to have gay marriage, then I think that’s a right for Texas people to decide,†Carter said.Carter added that he opposes having the government “tell a church to marry people if the church doesn’t want to.†Civil marriage equality does no such thing.“I don’t think that the government ought to ever have the right to tell a church to marry people if the church doesn’t want to,†Carter said. “I’m a Baptist, and the congregation of our church will decide whether we have a man or a woman as pastor, and whether we’ll marry gay people or not.â€The rest: http://www.salon.com/2014/10/27/jimmy_carter_flip_flops_on_nationwide_marriage_equality/?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=socialflowI hope he isn't compromising his principles just because his son is running for governor in a red state.
JoePhilly (21,119 posts)1. Sounds like it.The law has nothing to do with his baptist church. He has to know that.Response to JaneyVee (Original post)TwilightGardener (43,666 posts)2. Yeah, well, he also thinks we should have ground troops...in SYRIA...to fight ISIS.Syria, where we're hostile to the government and just about everyone else there EXCEPT the Kurds and some of the Free Syria Army.
There will be much butthurt in the DUmp over that.
They're used to it by now. Hopefully there is a rash (pun intended) of butt-hurt over there next week. More entertainment for us.
