$10.10 Minimum Wage Would Save The U.S. Government $7.6 Billion A Year

$10.10 Minimum Wage Would Save The U.S. Government $7.6 Billion A Year

by Kevin Short at the Huffington Post

"SNIP......................

Raising the federal minimum wage would save the government billions and have sweeping benefits for low-income families, according to a new analysis by the Economic Policy Institute, a think tank focused on labor issues.

EPI's report found that if the minimum wage were boosted from its current level of $7.25 per hour to $10.10, as proposed by the Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2014, more than 1.7 million Americans would no longer have to rely on public assistance programs. This would produce $7.6 billion per year or more in savings for the federal government, according to the study.

Millions of Americans, known as the "working poor," are unable to lift themselves above the poverty line despite working full-time, minimum-wage jobs. Increasing the minimum wage to $10.10 would mean that many of these people wouldn't have to rely on additional public subsidies to make ends meet.

Currently, half of all people earning under $10.10 per hour, roughly 11.9 million Americans, receive some form of means-tested benefits from the government, like the Earned Income Tax Credit, food stamps and others.

Uh...no, DUmmie. If the wage gets raised to $10.10/hr, a couple things will happen.

1. Price of goods, and services will naturally go up to balance everything out. Enjoy losing weight because you don't want to pay 4 bucks for that candy bar that was 1.29 before society decided to get dumber.

2. People like ME who make more than people like YOU because they're simply better, harder workers are going to be pitching a bitch because people who do shit work are going to be making the exact same as people like me. Not fair, or right. I'll either get my raise, and someone like YOU will be let go, or I'LL be let go. CHances are, I won't be let go, but if so, it will fall squarely on libber's heads.

3. Because of #1, the mational deficit will increase, and your precious low income living stoners will stay the same low income stoners they always were. They'll just get to have a teensy bit better quality product. Maybe....

Employers would lay people off, with single persons being the most likely targets who would then need government benefits.  Meanwhile, those few heads of households that still have jobs wouldn't be making enough to feed their families, so they would still  need aid.  Since fewer people are working, tax revenues would go down.

They already have robots that can crank out a perfect cheeseburger every time. My bet is that they can do the same with fries, salads and whatnot.

Also, they have robots that are doing the pick work for Amazon.

They are working to deploy stations so that you can place and receive your order without seeing a single, solitary employee.

And the thing is that robots can do the work cheaper over the long run, no labor issues, no HR issues, don't even need a manager. Just a mechanic making $10.10 an hour.

They could raise minimum wage to $20.00/hr and exactly 2 seconds later leftists/DUmbasses would be demanding that the poverty level and associated public assistance qualifications would be raised concurrently.

Less than 2% of the civilian labor force earn minimum wage.

This is just another phony political football, like the stupid war on women.

It is almost all they have left to run on, Dori.  Mostly because it makes for a good sound byte, and seems compassionate.

Raise the minimum wage and you will also raise the poverty line. Zero sum game. You might even add a few more people to those living below the poverty line as some business will lay them off in order to preserve profits.

Better idea on how to raise wages for those that really want to work.....send all the illegal immigrants home.....give every foodstamp, government freebie recipient a non-refundable, one way, ticket out of the country. Extreme shortage of labor will drive up wages quicker than anything else.
