Reid, Daschle feud erupts

Simmering tensions between Harry Reid and Tom Daschle are erupting into an all-out feud.

Daschle is expressing frustration with the Senate majority leader (D-Nev.) for refusing to endorse Rick Weiland, a former Daschle aide who is running for the South Dakota seat held by retiring Sen. Tim Johnson (D).

Reid last year declared Weiland was “not my choice” in the race, and this summer added, “We are going to lose in South Dakota, more than likely.”

Asked if those comments hurt Weiland’s chances, Daschle told The Hill, “Well, it certainly hasn’t helped.”.....

Quote
.....A recent poll showed former South Dakota Gov. Mike Rounds (R) up 11 points over Weiland, 39 percent to 28 percent. Former GOP Sen. Larry Pressler attracts 25 percent of the vote and ex-state legislator Gordie Howie draws 3 percent. Pressler and Howie are running as independents.....

....and the independents are spoilers for which party?
“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

"America is like a healthy body and its resistance is threefold: its patriotism, its morality, and its spiritual life. If we can undermine these three areas, America will collapse from within."  Stalin

Pressler was U.S. Senator (R) from South Dakota 1979-1997; this is his old seat, currently held by the crippled Tim Johnson (D).

The other one, Gordie Howie, doesn't have much out about himself:

Quote
Howie was elected to the South Dakota House of Representatives in the 2004 elections, serving in that body from 2005 to 2009. He was then elected to the South Dakota Senate in the 2008 elections, serving in that body from 2009 to 2011. In the spring of 2009, he founded and became president of Citizens for Liberty, a conservative group affiliated with the Tea Party movement.

Howie ran for Governor of South Dakota in the 2010 elections, with former State Senator Kermit Staggers as his running mate. Howie finished fourth out of five candidates in the Republican primary, with 10,430 votes (12.4%).

He is running for the United States Senate as an Independent in the 2014 elections. He has stated that he is running to ensure there is a "true conservative choice" because Republican nominee former Governor Mike Rounds is too moderate.

So, essentially, three (R)s, one (D), in this race.
