Skins's island springing back to life?
« on: September 23, 2014, 04:10:08 AM »
While sitting up during the middle of the night, tending to an old cat who is not long in this time and place, because I could only hold and comfort the cat but not converse with it, I checked out Skins’s island.  Usually I go there only for a few minutes at a time, but this past night I was there much longer than that.

After a barren drear summer, it appears Skins’s island is springing to life again.

This naturally is of great concern, given that the DUmpster relies on the primitives to produce tip-top first-rate high-quality comedy material for decent and civilized people.  If the primitives don’t produce, the DUmpster similarly languishes.

The primitives might think that a good thing, a stalled DUmpster, but really it’s not.  After all, the primitives crave attention, wish for a wider dissemination of their messages, but as it is, no one but the DUmpster pays any attention at all to the primitives, and even the primitives’ own fellow Democrats and liberals are skittish about showing them off to the wider world; they prefer the primitives remain hidden, out of sight.

Skins’s island’s not exactly popping like popcorn, but it’s more active than it had been.

I wondered what was different, and as I read on and on and on, I think I found it; the rabid women‘s-libbers aren‘t around like they used to be.

Now, BainsBane is on enforced vacation, and the redqueen primitive “quit” the other week, but one’s reasonably sure that they, like nadin, will be back.

There are after all some women who just can’t shut up.

But if the seabeyond bitch and the Bostonian beanie have been around, I didn’t see them.

General Discussion had few “women’s issues” threads, whereas over the summer there were times when three out of every four threads on the first page deal with such things.  With such dominance, the women’s issues shoved all other issues into the shadows.  democraticunderground might as well have been women’slibberunderground, a single-issue message-board.

This was unfair to both the primitives and decent and civilized people.  There’s lots of primitives, and they all have issues important to them--black issues, Latino issues, gay issues, anti-Semitic issues, terrorist love issues, Obama is the best thing since sliced bread issues, drug issues, cop-hating issues, gun-grabbing issues, &c., &c., &c.--but those concerns got avalanched over by the “women’s issues” of the rabid women’s-libbers.

Nobody’s going to deny that women have issues, but really, are they more important than all other issues?

Decent and civilized people are concerned about women’s issues too, but not obsessed with them.

Millions are being killed, starved, oppressed, neglected, all over the world, and one rather supposes those issues are more important than issues such as…..sexist language as used in an affluent society.

Perhaps because such offenses against God and humanity are generally being perpetuated in societies and countries dominated by ethnic and cultural groups for whom it’s politically-incorrect to criticize, the rabid women’s-libbers find it easier and safer to focus their attention on people who don’t hit back.

There are five forums--six, if one counts the abortion forum--on Skins’s island dedicated to women, and that should provide ample acreage for platforms from which the rabid women’s-libbers, when they inevitably return, can speak their pieces, without congesting General Discussion, rudely shoving other primitives with other concerns and issues out of the way.

Coach, they'll roar to life for the election, and stay living until after the 1st of January, no matter who wins.  If the Republicans win the Senate, DU will stay lively.  Then, the run-up to 2016 . . . :fuelfire:

With all the DUmmies rushing back to the island, aren't they afraid it might...you know...flip over?
“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

Maybe some of the younger commie lovers will slither out from under their rock long enough to provide a few moments of insanity.  One can only hope.  They do know DOTY is just around the corner don't they.

The proverbial calm before the storm.  The nutjobs will be out in force for the election.  From bitching about the Koch Brothers, bragging up their pet candidates, and claiming voter suppression, they shall make their unceremonious return.  And we will be laughing all the way.
