Rothenberg: ‘Substantial’ GOP wave

Ain't Stu Rothenburg a Dem pollster?  If so, this isn't good . . . ! :yahoo:

Rothenberg: ‘Substantial’ GOP wave

By JONATHAN TOPAZ | 9/9/14 9:10 AM EDT

Political analyst Stu Rothenberg sees a wave election coming for Senate Republicans in November.

In a Roll Call column published Monday, the electoral expert said he is expecting Republicans to gain at least seven seats in the Senate and earn a November victory more dramatic than several pollsters have suggested.

“I am now expecting a substantial Republican Senate wave in November, with a net gain of at least seven seats,” he said. “But I wouldn’t be shocked by a larger gain.”

Rothenberg said that while his election models don’t yet support his claim, he personally expects dramatic results coming in the midterms. “I’ve witnessed 17 general elections from my perch in D.C., including eight midterms, and I sometimes develop a sense of where the cycle is going before survey data lead me there,” he wrote.

“The combination of an unpopular president and a midterm election (indeed, a second midterm) can produce disastrous results for the president’s party,” he later added, a reference to President Barack Obama’s sagging approval numbers throughout the summer.

Well, no matter how you slice it, if the GOP takes control of the Senate, it won't be by much.

And that puts the RINO McConnell in as Majority Leader. He's just slightly to the right of the asshole that he'd replace, so I'm just not too sure that things would change all that much. Gridlock (meaning neither Barry gets his agenda done nor does the GOP).

And the debt limit will be increased yet again.

And the story just doesn't change much. Professional politicians running the show. Establishment GOP/RINO types that would rather "reach across the aisle" in a gesture of "solidarity."

It would be great to regain the Senate, but I learned a long time ago, don't count your chickens before they hatch.  A lot of the races are very close.

I'm not sure what, if anything, having the full congress will accomplish at this point.  Obama isn't going to work with them, or sign anything they pass.

And all we'll hear is "do nothing congress" come 2016.

Expecting either one of them to stop the Obama wheel of government is like scotching your truck wheels with marsh mellows.

McConnell is just an old-school wheeler-dealer, willing to trade pork and make deals, even if those deals don't please the GOP base despite being acceptable to the Beltway GOP and the big donors.  McCain actually believes 80% of the Democrat bullshit like cap-and-trade and gun control masquerading as 'Gun safety' are good ideas.

You're assuming that McConnell doesn't believe that as well.

My problem with McConnell is he's gone waaaaaaay out of his way to torpedo the Tea Party. He's got his own battle to fight in his election against a Dem (he'll probably win), but it would've done my heart good to see him pack his professional politician bags after Bevin trounced his ass. But no. We're stuck with the professional politician.

Again.
