Tip for every driver with an unnecessarily heavy key chain: get rid of it.

An engineer I know says that the problem of accidental hits to the ignition won't be limited to GM and (now) Chrysler. So if you have a heavy metal thing attached to your keys, get rid of it, and replace it with a key chain connected to something light and soft, like leather or soft plastic. Or a key chain with keys only -- and hopefully not too many of them.

You don't want your key chain to swing at your ignition while you're driving, and accidentally shut off your power everything (power brakes, power steering.) It won't be fun.

1. Someone at a dealership told me that 20 years ago.

Took his advice and my car keys is on its own chain.

3. Last time I took my truck in for service they told me sort of the same thing

But the problem wasn't with the key chain swinging around, it was that the extra weight hanging from the ignition key would eventually lead to play in the ignition switch causing it to shut off unexpectedly.

It sounded plausible to me so I bought a key thingie that pulled apart into two rings and kept the car and truck keys on one ring with all the house keys, mail box keys, swiss army knives, etc on the other one.

5. We bought a 2013 Dodge Caravan and now have something that

looks like a cheap plastic USB as a key. There's no way it could support my keyring w/ my other keys and still stay in the slot. Actually, there is a regular metal key housed inside the plastic, but it will only open the door -- can't be used to start the car. We lose that key/case and we're screwed! Love our Ford Taurus w/ the plain old metal key and electronic key fob that will open the trunk, doors, etc...And if we forget our keys inside the vehicle, we can use the keypad on the door handle to punch in the access code.

Not 100% sure that the new car would actually lock if the key was inside the car and turned off, but I'm not going to even try it! As it is, the dealer providing a second key was a negotiating point when we bought the car. Guess I should have negotiated for 2 extra - one for hubby and one to keep in the house.

10. My key chain has ONE key.

My ignition key. I don't even have a front door key. I have a secondary key chain with keys to the summer place.* All of my "loyalty cards" are kept on my iPhone. My electronic key fob is twice the size of my actual car key.

12. Likewise

Was told years ago, I think Click and Clack, to not hand a wad of keys from the ignition. I carry all other keys on one key chain, and the ignition on it's own, very light weight, key chain. (Mostly to make it easier to find in my pocket)

Maybe the keychain holding the key to their chastity belt could hold the rest of their keys.
There were only two options for gender. At last count there are at least 12, according to libs. By that standard, I'm a male lesbian.

Nice to see McGrath making a desperate, embarrassing attempt to stave off impressions of his self-reported poverty (as if that baggy suit didn't speak for itself).

And I'm afraid the nutcase may stay at DU Jr. even after her sentence is served out.

Her opposition there is far less clever than at the DUmp, and she can more easily appear as a martyr, a victim of crude attacks.

On the other hand, her audience at DU Jr. doesn't seem too interested in San Diego grass fires or 5.5 earthquakes in Tonga.

Maybe if the criminal element that has been arrested 39 times was sent to prison long ago, like after the third time, we wouldn't have to have all those  keys on a ring. Personally, I have 3 separate key rings in my pocket....each one full of keys.

There was a piece on the TV news a couple of weeks ago about a guy trapped in his car and couldn't get out. He had a minor accident that disconnected electrical power from the door locks and windows. When he lost power it locked the steering wheel and doors. The glass was tempered glass and he couldn't break it by kicking it......and the car had caught fire. He had resigned himself to burning to death. A good Samaritan happened along and was brave enough to ignore the flames. He was able to bend the top of the door frame down so the guy could escape.

Why is the glass on your  car unbreakable? Why does the steering wheel lock when you switch it off? Why are there no longer any manual door locks on your car doors? They were required by liberals to protect the 39 time loser criminals from temptation.

I figured this was going to be another sexist thread by the DUmmies.

You KNOW car keys are sexist.  You have to insert that thing into a slot to get the damn car to do anything.

Sorry, couldn't resist.  But seriously ...

No, seriously, really and truly.

As I was copying-and-pasting this, I was thinking that pretty soon, anything with one piece that's inserted into another piece--hose ends, for example--is going to be considered, at least by the primitives, as another indication of "male dominance."

The primitives could screw up the ignition on a car that's keyless start.

Maybe not. My pickup doesn't have manual door locks so, if I lose power to the automatic door locks, it could happen to me.

I don't have car keys for either cars or truck.

Just electronic gizmos you carry in your pocket.

You get in the car, turn on the engine, and go. No keys.

Electric and electronic accessories have proven to be more nuisance than convenience in the cars and trucks I've owned, they spare you from efforts that are trivial in the first place and then ultimately fail, at which point you find out how difficult they are to replace (Or expensive, if you don't do your own minor automotive work).
