How DU can avoid getting rat****ed again by the GOP during the 2014 election cycle:

It appears a number of DUers here took some recent GOP bait hook line and sinker:

This is a good lesson for some folks on DU. How can we prevent getting taken for a ride by the GOP in the future?

1) Be suspicious of any MSM article that plays up divisions among Dems. The GOP is in a very weak position historically, especially when you consider their current standing among women and minorities along with the recent demographic changes in this country. The GOP cannot win elections campaigning on their unpopular policies so they will employ the divide and conquer strategy along with tactics such voter suppression.

2) Look at the author of the article. If the author is a well-known GOP hack who writes for conservative websites like the National Review Online, that's a pretty good indication that the article is not what it appears to be. A simple Google search of the author will suffice.

3) Look for actual facts and numbers. If the article provides no actual evidence, you may want to consider taking the entire thing with a grain of salt. As we saw during the 2012 election cycle, facts and numbers for the GOP are like sunlight to a vampire.

The 2014 election is getting closer by the day. The GOP will try to win by any means necessary. Just be aware that this is happening. You can be taken for a ride if you're not alert.

As Frank would say, "Oh, my..."

5. Funny how we see very few Repubs in disarray articles

The MSM has their theme and they are sticking to it.

Excellent suggestions Cali.

I see them all the time, but this goes back to the whole "The MSM is a VRWC!!!"

18. The thread had over a 150 recs

It was at the top of the greatest page for quite some time. A large number of DUers took the bait unfortunately. Many had no idea the article was written by a well-known conservative.

I'm trying to make sure the same mistake is not repeated.

The meme on DU being NO conservative tells the truth, The MSM is conservative. No MSM story that is anti-dem is truth...

The GOP and the MSM do something called "framing," and they are very good at it. If I were writing that article, for instance, I would have titled it: "Warren stumps for Dem candidates; will help get Obama a Congress he can work with." Instead we have a title that instantly says the Dems are splitting apart when in fact the GOP is in a civil war with its own various factions.

See how nifty that works?

And see how many DUers were only too happy to take the opportunity to slam Obama, slam Hillary, and jump on the Warren for President bandwagon? when she still has not announced she will run, nor has Hillary announced she will run -- and what we need Right Now this Very Minute is a GOTV for 2014 or we might as well kiss 2016 goodbye.

They are so covering their asses for the serious ass-kicking that is to come in November.

38. The Turd Way needs to be flushed and to the best of my knowledge, I coined it not Nader.

SO MOTHER**** THE TURDWAY!

If you want to circle the wagons around the Koch Brothers/Pete Peterson corporate assimilation campaign feel free but it says that is the kind of toxic, anti Democratic, anti self determination, **** a second Bill of Rights, too big to fail loving, warmongering, secular TeaPubliKlan, pro corporate capture and dominance, anti civil liberties, free trading, screw the working class, forget the environment ideals you favor/tolerate/encourage by using the Teaidiots as contrast/excuse to sell out the people, the country, and the world because that is exactly what the Turd Way is all about no matter how many slick labels they come up with and run from when the light of day is shed on them.

That's right. We all should know this, but maybe some younger DUers haven't learned how to scrutinize what they read. It really only takes a minute to pick it apart. Remember: you can't believe everything you see or hear. You MUST consider the source first and foremost. And I totally agree about being leery of any article that plays up a division in the Dem Party... especially in the run-up to an election. The Republican opposition research group really doesn't have much to work with. So they just blather out blatant lies, and their base believes it. "Skeptic" is my middle name.

35. I am busy with county party and state party on issues for 2014

I am not planning on taking my eye off these races and issues. I really do not care what happens in 2016 right now and want to see if we can survive 2014 and help as many people to vote as possible. The Texas voter id law is likely to be in effect for the general election (trial starts Sept 2 but even if we win, the 5th cir. will probably stay any ruling). There is a great deal to be done to help people get ids so that they can vote between now and the November election.

November should be glorious!

What a strange world of make believe they live in.

And the two scary things about it is they believe they are the ones living in reality...and they vote thinking the way they do.
The libs/dems of today are the Quislings of former years. The cowards who would vote a fraud into office in exchange for handouts from the devil.

Let me sum up the DU answer:  :lalala:
Fire...BAD!!! - John Fetterman

The policies that are indorsed by this party, that they backer of which are much of the 1 percent, causes a social structure much like the one back before the Revolution.

-Words of wisdom from Lady Freedom Returns

"Arguing with liberals...it's like playing chess with a pigeon; no matter how good I am at chess, the pigeon is just going to knock over the pieces, crap on the board and strut around like it's victorious." -- Anonymous

An article posted for the sake of discussion is going to influence members of a site that believes without question what the Dem party tells them to believe? Really?

Any human being in their right mind would be insulted by the insinuation they are that easily swayed. Ergo, the primitives are not.

Proglodytes imagine themselves to be the awesomest people ever. If you were one of them the you would be awesome too.

But you aren't.

It would be acceptable if you were so over-awed by their greatness that you readily adhere to whatever they tell you.

But you don't.

It can't be them; they're awesome.

It must be you.

You're either evil and/or mind-controlled.

They believe the only reason you are a conservative is because you whatever Fox news tells you. You had no free will whatsoever, not even when using the TV remote.

Oh sure, it may sound as if they wish you had joined them instead but what they're really saying is they wish the brainwashed, easily led masses were their brainwashed easily led masses.

They expect people to be controlled so long as they are the controllers.

They deserve to be in control...

...because they're so awesome.
According to the Bible, "know" means "yes."

The MSM is full of stories of stories of the split between the conservative base and the GOP elite. Even Fox News covers it.
