I wouldn't mind chattin with a hard line communist or a liberal republican, as long as they were civil and had something to bring to the table.

2. Agreed.

I don't think I have anyone on Ignore, at least not intentionally. I tried the Ignore feature, but decided that I was missing out on something.

Hey! If you don't like the heat, go into the Cooking forum.

Sorry, that was supposed to be a play on Truman's famous statement if you don't like the heat get out of the kitchen.

Anyway, I want everyone to be here. I like honing my arguments with people who disagree with me.

I don't like posts of videos of Limbaugh or Fox News or other right-wingers, but I figure I can just ignore them if they are clearly identified for what they are.

I do not like the idea of censorship, of a thought police brigade on DU. That is not what being a Democrat is about.

4. so...ban the leftists, but republicans are ok?
DU has gone into the ****ing toilet

Don't comment on what you don't understand, provis. Therefore, don't comment on much of anything. How are you 1000+ again?

21. I wouldn't ban leftists either. I would not ban anyone.
I like discussing things with people who have all kinds of ideas. I'm opposed to censorship unless someone is utterly nuts or attacking someone personally.

24. but what defines "progressive"? And WHO defines "progressive"?
Edited on Thu Dec-08-11 07:21 AM by populistleftist1
what is the real problem is that there is a core platform for the Dems and GOP, and the most successful political forums online will ban you if you violate those certain planks in the platform.

THe top Dem forums will ban you if you dare speak against certain planks: namely, racial equality, multiculturalism, immigration, identity politics in general, social leftism, in other words. That is inviolate. If you speak against social leftism in the top Dem forums, they will ban you. Now if you want to speak against economic leftism, that is just fine and dandy with the top Dem forums. Do that all ya want. You can go on the top Dem forums and scream all day against progressive taxation. They won't touch ya. Just coincidentally, economic leftism hurts the rich and social leftism helps the rich, some would argue.

the top GOP forums will ban you if you speak out there against economic rightwingerism, such as regressive taxation, universal healthcare, worker's rights etc. But if you want to speak out against social rightwingerism, such as abortion, religion, etc., that is fine and dandy. Just coincidentally, social rightwingerism does not help the rich, but economic rightwingerism does.

The fact is that those top political online would not be at the top if they did not adhere to these unwritten rules of american politics. PR from the mainstream media makes them go to the top.

You are not allowed to mix and match certain planks of the Right and so-called Left in america. This is the dominant political paradigm, adn there are millions of americans who live by these rules.
And the online forums adhere to this in order to get more donations.

Some would argue that a politician who mixed these certain taboo planks from the GOP and from the Dems would be the most popular politician in america. That would be bad for...wait for it...the rich.

Wrong, wrong, and wrong again. On so many levels. In fact, you are welcome; more than welcome, to come over here. Post over here a bit. See what real freedom to move your fingers in most any direction you like looks like. What it feels like. Oh so liberating, DUmmie. You'll like it.

How about a conservative one, DUmbass?
Then-Chief Justice John Marshall observed, “Between a balanced republic and a democracy, the difference is like that between order and chaos.”

John Adams warned in a letter, “Remember democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet, that did not commit suicide.”
