DUmmy Walks An Hour In Storm To Buy Beer

I walked for an hour this evening in a torrential downpour.

Raging winds, trees overhead convulsing, thunder, lightning, even a tornado warning. What an ordeal... but it was 100% voluntary (to go pick up a 6 pack of beer), and man.... it was a thrill! I felt like a 10 year old, so alive. Now that I've I dried up somewhat, Cheers...

3. I've driven through a blizzard to buy beer.

But I would not walk through a lightning/thunderstorm to get beer. I would not risk my life for beer. (Ok, we were still in town when we went for the beer. It's not like we went through the real blizzard out in the countryside to get beer.)

You know, this is ridiculous.

Even during my worst years of drinking, I wouldn't walk an hour for a six-pack of beer, even on a fine day in May, much less during a rainstorm.

What's a six-pack of beer these days?  Six bucks, maybe?

To make it worth it, it would've had to be for a twelve-pack at least; otherwise, I'd just as soon go without.

Just a six pack?  He's either a cheapass or a teetotaler.

Right;  one's going to have beer, one might as well have a reasonable quantity of it.

A six-pack, and walking for an hour in a rainstorm to get it, even if one intends to drink all of it oneself, doesn't cut it.  Not worth the effort.

I never could understand the draw of alcohol.  Lots of family members would probably travel for something like that, but chemical dependency is a powerful thing.  If you never have it you don't miss it I guess.  It would be interesting to know if it was a name brand or some obscure independent brewery that the primitive had such a hankering for

Severe alcoholics like Will Pitt will go through a lot more than a rainstorm for a drink.

11. I forgot about the tall building aspect of plumbing.

I've always lived in areas where the water pressure came from gravity (water towers). Since I lived in Minnesota, all of our water mains are well below the frost line.

I remember filling the bathtubs in our house on 12-31-99 because the public utilities, i.e. water, might crash. What a bunch of b.s. that turned out to be.

12-31-99, at 11:59pm, I was standing with my family in the living room, with a glass of champagne in one hand, and a flashlight in the other, watching the ball drop.  :-)

Nothing happened...

Poor planning on the DUmmie's part, however, for waiting until running out of beer before getting more.

Since, I've been caught in so many rainstorms while trout fishing, (usually the fishing gets great) I really don't mind being in the rain in the summer.  As long as it's warm enough.  Sometimes there almost seems to be something therapeutic about getting soaked right through.  I wouldn't walk an hour for beer however.

When I was drinking, I did some stupid things to get beer.  Nothing as stupid as walking an hour through an effin' thunderstorm to get it--if there was electricity coming out of the sky, I was under cover somewhere.  Alcohol could wait; the storm would be over soon.

They're being too hard on you, Joe.  Do it again next time wild and wooly weather comes along.  The lightning cracking overhead makes you feel so alive!  See if you can't take a shortcut through a golf course or something.

Joe,just remember that normal household products like bleach, drain cleaner or paint thinner will replace beer in a pinch.

You`re welcome. :)
