You people aren't saving enough for retirement! Shame on you!

Two financial analysts were on Morning Joe today talking about how bad you people are! It seems you have been buying new cars before the old one was worn out! You're buying too much stuff. Just have your employer deduct money automatically from each of your paychecks and PROBLEM SOLVED!

Also, you aren't working long enough. Retiring at sixty-five doesn't cut it any more...work longer! You slackers...

withering

I would like to introduce to them our good friend, Bill. He worked as a plumber for 32 years. By age 62 his knees had given out (one is replaced, the other will soon be) from working on them on hard, cold bathroom floors, he shoulder was shot from carrying heavy plumbing fixtures and he is having shoulder surgery soon. Oh, and before he was a plumber, he was a welder and has scarring on his eyes as a result...but he's a REAL baddie cuz he had one of them awful unions and was a shop steward...his retirement medical benefits kicked in until he get to 65 and can take Medicare...

And he was doing so well before all the sarcasm nonsense. The first line would have been more than appropriate.

1. Why do they think 'hoarders' are on the rise?

They're 'saving for retirement'.

I myself have quite the collection of seeds saved up at this point, since I doubt I'll be able to afford anything more than living in the wild and foraging and 'guerilla farming' to stay alive...

I don't think that filth growing in your jockies really counts as seed saving.

19. I see this as part of an overall stragey to completely blame the middle class

for wanting SS and Medicare. It's part of their snarky "you people just want free stuff!" By blaming the workers for their plight, they think people aren't fooled and have fallen for their overall strategy, which is aimed at getting rid of SS, Medicare, Medicaid, the minimum wage and Unemployment Insurance.

"takers"
I'd be thrilled to have all of that government "help" gone so I could have a bigger paycheck... if it was so great, you'd have the option to opt out.

21. My mother was from that generation that had good benefits, pensions and the cost of living was

low. She was able to leave me her investments when she passed away. It wasn't a fortune, but without it I wouldn't have been able to retire. Even then, I only retired from full time. I took a part time job to supplement my income. I was planning on sharing it with my brother but he died suddenly from a stroke before mother passed away...I was "the last one standing" so to speak..
And you did so well with it that you were able to pass it on to your offspring....oh.

Oh.

The Connecticut Yankee primitive.

She's a dilletante, a dabbler in the "fine arts," an older woman.

She goes to Europe all the time, and at the same time talks about how poor she is.

It seems like the majority of DUers are hard up financially.  At least that's how they make it sound.

If one counts welfare as "income," probaby the "average" income of the primitives exceeds the average income here.

Really.

The concept of delayed gratification completely escapes them.  Worked great for the boss and I and, we are enjoying a modest but comfortable retirement that we worked and saved for.  Hopefully, O'bozo wont destroy it all before we check out.

Well now, seems the Union hasn't done much good for this guy, except maybe reducing his take home pay in the form of dues which were then redistributed to crooked democrat politicians.  Maybe he gets Christmas cards from the local and a nice picnic on Labor day.     Dude, you been screwed by the Union Label. :whistling:

Liberal thinking is a two-legged stool and magical thinking is one of the legs, the other is a combination of self-loating and misanthropy.  To understand it, you would have to be able to sit on that stool while juggling two elephants, an anvil and a fragmentation grenade, sans pin.

So dummie... what stopped Mr. Bill from socking back 10-20 percent of his pay every payday for 32 years? Plumbers make darn good money. My granddad on my mother's side was one. Owned his business. Died in his mid 50's and left his wife very well off. Oh did I mention he went thru the great depression? He never spent a dollar on anything that was not absolutely necessary. Saved his money.

I do the same thing. I don't spend on anything unless I save for it. House and car are exceptions and then I pay them off early. I save 20 percent above what the 401k gets. That is my money. Been doing it since I was 24. I rarely eat out. Don't eat lunch. It adds up. That is just extra money for me. Goes straight to the bank. Got a decent little chunk of change saved up. My goal is to retire at 65 and replace my salary. If SS gives me anything, it is gravy.

That is the difference between us and you. We take control of our lives. You let groups control your lives. I will be good in the end, you will be disappointed and poor.

Sucks to be you.

Um, I just had my tankless water heater flushed (must be done every three years) and was charged $350.00 he spent all of 45 minutes.

Yeah, Bill should have put a little of that pay check in the savings account or IRA.  :loser:

WOW! Any savings on electricity goes to the plumber, huh.

It's always just amazing to me that these people are so irresponsible for absolutely everything in their lives. The financial part is always the worst.  We're raising 3 kids (another on the way) supporting a gentleman's farm and STILL putting some away. This is all on one very modest income. The wife stays home and schools the kids, does her own thing and even has her own retirement account.  We've hit our end-year target for growth already this month so the rest is pure gravy. Heck, we're already considering some vacation property down the road and could pay cash for it.
You have to be a complete idiot to spend YEARS complaining on a message board going on about how "the man" is keeping you down and how you've got a whopping $75 in savings.  Gross incompetence doesn't even begin to describe these people.  A life crushed by rampant drug use, self pity and self loathing. They just need to waste themselves and save everyone else the oxygen.

My tankless water heater is operated by propane and uses just 75 watts of electricity for ignition.

On the other hand, the cost of electric (my original water heater was electric) vs propane is a wash.......no savings.

There are other benefits though, "unlimited hot water" and since the electric it uses is minimal (75 watts) it keeps us in hot water during a power outage while on generator. When our power goes out it is usually out for days at a time.  :whatever:
