His father was a veteran of WWII.  He was probably conservative and disappointed in his loser son, so Stewart labeled him as "Crazy."

He listened and decided it was very important to keep dad soaked in febreeze so the neighbors wouldn't question the smell and the SS checks would keep coming.

I read in another thread he was selling his father's plot in a veteran's cemetary.  I hope that wasn't true.  That's some serious bad karma there.
