Carolyn McCarthy (born January 5, 1944) is an American nurse and politician. She is the U.S. Representative for New York's 4th congressional district, serving since 1997. She is a member of the Democratic Party. The district is located in central Long Island in west-central Nassau County and includes Mineola, the Five Towns, East Rockaway, Rockville Centre, Oceanside, Garden City, Hempstead, Uniondale, East Meadow, Roosevelt, Franklin Square, West Hempstead, Valley Stream, and Elmont.

McCarthy has been described as "the doyenne of anti-gun advocates in the House" and "the fiercest gun-control advocate in Congress". She has made attempts to broaden her policy portfolio, but hasn't been able to shed the label of being a one-issue congresswoman. She has acknowledged this, and in 2009 said that although she is also known for her education and district work, she is still the "gun lady". McCarthy was a registered Republican before her first run for Congress. She has "evolved over the years into a reliable Democratic vote. She has voted with her party 98.1 percent of the time during the 111th Congress."

Douglas Carmichael "Mike" McIntyre II (born August 6, 1956) is the U.S. Representative for North Carolina's 7th congressional district, serving since 1997. He is a member of the Democratic Party and of the Blue Dog Coalition.
 
The district is a large, mostly rural district in the southeastern part of the state, including Wilmington, Smithfield, Clinton and Kinston. Following the 2010 United States census, Lumberton, McIntyre's hometown, was mostly redistricted to North Carolina's 8th congressional district.

In 2008, McIntyre authored the Veterans Outreach Improvement Act. The bill, which is designed to increase funding to veterans' programs, was passed by the House unanimously. He has also written legislation to help tobacco farmers receive government subsidies and buyouts.

On September 29, 2008 he voted against the $700 billion bank bailout plan. He has indicated his opposition to the national Democratic party plans for a health care reform bill and in March 2010, McIntyre voted against the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. He said: "After we help jump start our economy, we should again turn our attention to health care reform – but with a clean slate." McIntyre indicated his support for repeal on multiple occasions. In January 2011, McIntyre was one of 3 Democrats to vote with the unified Republican caucus for the repeal of the recent health care reform law.

In July 2011, McIntyre was one of five Democrats to vote for the Cut, Cap, and Balance Act. Rep. McIntyre is one of the strongest Democratic voices in the House of Representatives in support of stronger counter-terrorism and domestic surveillance laws. Mr. McIntyre voted in support of the 2001 Patriot Act, the Patriot Act re-authorization of 2006, the Protect America Act of 2007, the FISA Amendment act of 2008, the Patriot Act Extension of 2011, the FISA Extension of 2012.

Oh yeah, THAT McCarthy...I remember her.  But for Obamacare, I wouldn't bet a nickel on her district going Red.  Unlike Staten Island, Long Island is pretty much as solidly Democrat as Manhattan or the Bronx, but with different demographics.  And Staten Island may be Republican, but not as we know it.  Obamacare is the one thing that might get a Dem out of that chair.
