Wed Jan 1, 2014, 12:15 PM Omaha Steve (37,893 posts) Remember that Walmart Black Friday $98 32 inch TV super deal?A friend that is hard of hearing bought one. The closed Captioning doesn't work. He called the maker. They told him to return it. But that will cost more for S&H both ways than the original $98. Walmart will only allow a store credit for $98 period. He can't get near as much of a TV even on after Christmas sales. Some deal. Class action? OS
Walmart (WMT) will be selling a 32-inch LED Funai for just $98, making it one of the very cheapest TVs on sale this year. Discriminating buyers, however, should likely stay away -- Funai isn't in the same league as Sony (SNE) or Panasonic (PCRFY) when it comes to picture quality, and this particular set is just 720p (in contrast to full-HD 1080p). If you've never heard of Funai, the company generally sells its TVs under the Sylvania and Magnavox brands, two budget names not exactly known for their quality.
Our TV has closed captioning, but also the cable box has captioning available through it. Most cable companies require some sort of box these days.
You get what you pay for.
OS probably thinks the TV is supposed to generate CC all by itself.Because magic.

Please don't tell Steve's "friends" over at the DUmp that he scored a TV for $98.00
Omaha SteveClass action?
Class action? For a $98 TV? Really? This dolt wanted to be elected and he doesn't have any clue about how the law works?Hey OS, what's the remedy for a TV that doesn't work? Take it back to the store and either get a replacement or get your money back. So exactly where does a class action fit into this?Friggin' idiot.
I've never had a problem with either Magnavox or Sylvania. I got a Sylvania in my kitchen that is 5 or 6 years old. I do make sure I have clean power on it. I do that for just about any TV, PC or the like. You got good clean power, that takes care of a lot of future problems. Dunno about newer stuff though. Might be junk for all I know.
What would the class action be for you Mini Taco eating idiot?
