Chinese Naval Vessel Tries to Force U.S. Warship to Stop in International Waters

A Chinese naval vessel tried to force a U.S. guided missile warship to stop in international waters recently, causing a tense military standoff in the latest case of Chinese maritime harassment, according to defense officials.

The guided missile cruiser USS Cowpens, which recently took part in disaster relief operations in the Philippines, was confronted by Chinese warships in the South China Sea near Beijing’s new aircraft carrier Liaoning, according to officials familiar with the incident.

“On December 5th, while lawfully operating in international waters in the South China Sea, USS Cowpens and a PLA Navy vessel had an encounter that required maneuvering to avoid a collision,” a Navy official said.

A State Department official said the U.S. government issued protests to China in both Washington and Beijing in both diplomatic and military channels.

According to the officials, the run-in began after a Chinese navy vessel sent a hailing warning and ordered the Cowpens to stop. The cruiser continued on its course and refused the order because it was operating in international waters.

Yep Sparky... I agree. And probably steaming in the "exclusion zone" or whatever they call it over those islands, and flying some Hornets around. Unfortunately we got Carter to the third power in the white house. That is the only reason the chinks are doing it. They are sending a message to the folks in that neighborhood. You can't depend on the US. Even if we get a Reagan clone in the white house in 2016, the damage is done.

 Since the advent of the Obama regime the U.S.A has lost much prestige in the world. We (USA) are perceived as much weaker and Obama has cut back on military spending and Nuclear capabilities. To make things worse he has announced these cutbacks to the whole world. Twenty years ago China would not have risked the blocking of a US warship in international waters. Now, thanks to the Obama regime, they willingly take those chances. In this case they did not succeed but soon they will pull it off as we become weaker and Obama's resolve evaporates by the second. We have a leader who doesn't like the country he leads. He doesn't like most American people either. He does not care about our perception by the rest of the world as long as he can play golf and vacation. The only people Obama will stomp on are Americans. China knows this. However, with God's help this government will not step on us anymore.
