Treated like a Queen FOR Smoking at Office Christmas Party

My husband's office Christmas party was last night at an exclusive Naples, Florida, restaurant. Ok, prepare to be the Leper for smoking. I am used to it. I went into the parking lot to smoke and a waiter happened to see me, asked why I was there, and led me by the hand to tables outside the restaurant. "The owner and her son of this restaurant smoke", he said. He clearned a table for me and brought me an ashtray.

While sitting there Maria (owner in her 70s) sat down with me. It was a cold night in Florida and she ordered staff to bring a heater to our table. We chatted about many things, on and off. Damn, this is NICE! I don't have to slink around in the darkness. I was the only person in the entire company or guests who smoked. Wellness stuff, ya know.

When I happened to mention to Maria that I really liked Veal Marsala, which was not on the set company menu for the night, she called her son over and told him to make it special for me at no charge. "Anything you want I can get you, she said". When our food was brought to the table, I got my special order. How did YOU get that? Well, MARIA said I could have it. Waiter came over to me at dessert and asked if I wanted any special desert or liquore, which I didn't even ask for. Sure, can I have.......... What the HELL, everyone else was asking. ROFL

She left out the part about having the valet parking staff detail her car, the head chef taking her to the jewlrey store for some comp gold, and having their banker write off the balance of their mortgage. HockeyMom,It's the little details that make a story so interesting!

Yes she did leave out details, but, sometimes weird shit happens.

Of all places Washington DC.   We strolling about a block or so from the Zoo came to a restaurant with a menu outside.   Italian place and it was not yet open.   We had no idea what the heck the dishes were, like Frank when he posts menu's of Italian food, I have no darn idea what kind of food he is talking about, could be pig brains in milk for all I know.

As we turned to leave a woman well into her 80's came out and told us they were open.   So as the only customers at that time a day we went in and asked the woman for menus--   In English at the top of the menu was a statement they had been in business since 1940.

WOW, I bet my parents had dined there when both were stationed in DC. for the early part of the war.

I made my confession to this waitress/owner or what ever that we had no idea what anything on the menu was familiar to us.   She asked us what we did not care for, we both turned down Liver, Squid and steamed mollusks.

Hubby is Half Italian ---the poor part and only had Italian food on the holidays as a kid.   I asked her to choose a meal for a couple of Yankees that had no idea what we were doing. To my surprise she brought us house red wine with a bowl of ice cubes.     How on earth she knew I liked my wine chilled-----

Then the serving, some kind of meat ravioli with a white sauce, a salad with olive oil and cheese.   Unbelievable, we were wide eyed and scarfing up like hogs at a troth.

After the meal we still each had a second glass of wine left over and  she directed us to the front outside dining area so we could enjoy it with a cigarette.  Illegal in DC, but we were so happy we left her a $25.00 tip.

These things do come out of the blue, never know when they will strike but it becomes memorable in time.

Damn blue state Yankees moved in down here and us local life long smoking residents have been banished to the leper colony outside, minimum of 25 feet from the door. Before they came, you couldn't buy alcohol on Sunday, period. Now you can't have a quiet Sunday lunch on the town without some drunken loud mouth ruining your pleasant meal.
“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

It's about freaking time that the DUchebag was treated the way she thinks she ought to be.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

Then-Chief Justice John Marshall observed, “Between a balanced republic and a democracy, the difference is like that between order and chaos.”

John Adams warned in a letter, “Remember democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet, that did not commit suicide.”
