Moscow Mayor Thinks Mosques Attract Illegal Migration

Moscow is banning the construction of new mosques, the latest sign of the growing anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim sentiment in Russia.

The four existing mosques in Russia’s largest city are overcrowded during the Muslim holidays. But Mayor Sergei Sobyanin declared this week that new ones will not be built because they are used by migrant workers, according to the Christian Science Monitor. He claimed that between 60 and 70 percent of Muslim worshipers are migrants.

One new mosque is currently under construction. But there won’t be any more, the mayor said.

The Russians have been dealing with Islamists and they are not too happy with mosques being built in Moscow.

Moratorium time.
There were only two options for gender. At last count there are at least 12, according to libs. By that standard, I'm a male lesbian.

They dream of an entire world that worships Islam.  A global Caliphate.

This isn't religious freedom. This is typical Russian xenophobia. Also, the idea that mosques cannot be freely built with private money is silly at best and tyrannical at worst. I can't speak to the fears of the Russian people, but I'm sure it's similar to the fears of most European countries currently about Muslim migration. They should show tolerance since there is none in the Middle East. However, they should make sure the rule of law cannot be handed over to the possible theocrats they're guarding against, which is sensible. The mayor of Moscow comes off as a thug, but go figure. lol.

I'll add- he is absolutely right to deport any illegals, which he is doing quite well based on statistics alone.

Russia has problems with Muslim terrorists and the mosques recruit them.  That's where our Boston bombers got their ideology.  I don't believe you can separate Mosques from terrorism.  There are also a lot of no-go areas in western Europe because of the Muslim infiltration.

I believe you. I don't know how you can divide the two and keep religious freedom though. However, if somebody, a Muslim using connections in a Moscow Mosque in this scenario, is caught making bombs to blow up Russian civilians I'd support the court ordered dismembering of their bodies for the public to applaud.

That is certainly a problem.  As much as I hate how Christians are treated in this country, doing the whole bogus "separation of church and state" just may be what saves us from the Muslims getting too big a foothold here like they have in other western countries.

Expecting anti-Christian/Jewish progressives to enforce it with any degree of fairness would be nearly impossible.  Having a law like that would be an open door for someone like Obama to step on civil liberties and leave the door open to the tactics his administration has used against people that disagree with him.

But Russia is not America.  We can't use the same standards to compare the two.

I agree. When issues come up that seems to shore up admittance to the existence of the importance of my Christian beliefs in all public arenas, I respect the fact that there may be things I hate worse if I don't respect such a separation. However that being said, I still get my back up when schools and other public venues encourage an anthiest belief over any religious beliefs. If you take my meaning - I suggest that often people are encouraged to not regard people of faith with any respect, which is wrong to me as well.

"Having a law like that..." Are you referring to the Mayor of Moscows actions specifically?

No, I did't read what he's proposed.  I was referring to a federally-enforced religious separation decree.

Oh they are doing it already.  I just read about a city that is closing down a public swimming spot during certain times and banning the men in order to accommodate Somali Muslim women.

It's not a real law, yet courts have been enforcing it like it was.  And have been for a long time.  Thanks to the ACLU.  Several years ago, our state had to remove a tiny cross on the top of a mission off the state seal.  It was infuriating, when part of the history of this state was Father Serra establishing missions all up and down the state.
