I'm in my 20s, and I really can't believe the amount of 20-somethings who pretend they were tremendously impacted by Nelson Mandela via their social media postings.

To be perfect honestly, I think I'm more affected by Paul Walker's death, as I've at least seen a couple of the Fast N Furious movies.

I have been half attempted to post some things about the real Mandela, but my Facebook page is filled with uninformed classmates, so it's not worth really lighting a fire under their ignorance.

I was in my early college years during the fight against apartheid. I don't remember a lot about it and never knew a lot of Mandela's background.  Over the years, I only heard the great things of Mandela until the last few, where I heard more of his political leanings and terrorism.

We have friends who were missionaries in various parts of Africa, and now as directors, they have a home in South Africa.  My parents visited a few years ago.  They said Johannesburg is a beautiful city but security is high.  Soweto has turned into a hellhole.  Very unsafe and shanty towns throughout. 

I'm really quite ignorant of the history.  I hope those in harms way after his death will remain safe.  The brutality in some of these African nations really knows no bounds.

I propose we launch a new line of necklaces called the Mandela collection. Each necklace is handcrafted into a tiny tire. Would be a fitting tribute to saint Firestone.

Ironic that the media had nothing but negativity about Margaret Thatcher when she died, yet they can't even run one story about the negativity associated with Mandela.   I guess they only respect the dead when they are left-wing marxists.
