I can't believe this: To get on Heart Transplant list, one needs to be nicotine free 6 months.

This was told to me today by a 21 year old girl who has a grave cardiac condition. She is now on 24/7 Primacor IV infusion at home. She needs to be on the transplant list now! She has been nicotine free for 40 days....I doubt she will live 6 months without a new heart let alone live long enough just to be placed on the list.

He father died at the same age with the same condition. No diabetes, no substance abuse beyond cigarettes.

I have a very hard time accepting this criteria. Apparently, the rationale is that if they smokes, they will waste a good heart.

Anyone out here with knowledge regarding this frightening standard?

I don't have a reference tool or documentation as of yet. What I do know is she is not on the list. Her mother actually told me this as the girl is very weak and talking is difficult.

Oh cruel world! How could you not waste a perfectly good heart on somebody that will more than likely abuse it?!

17. I think it is related to her poor social group.

Limited education....not that information was not provided..she has been treated as a child for cardiac issues...Appears the standard of heath prevention and management may not of been enforced by the mother I'm guessing...and passed onto the daughter.
Of course it's society's fault you heartless (hehe) monster!

B.S. is going to be on the Mod radar very shortly. The proper answer at the island is NEVER.  That question should not have been raised and this particular primitive will most likely be punished for it.

Maybe we can give her a pain pill instead of surgery.

She could become a rich and famous democrat party donating, drug abusing, law breaking, movie/music star and get a new heart, lungs, liver and kidney transplant.

Excuse me but doesn't DD realize that concern for bad karma validates the premise of the book she is rejecting?

Maybe that is one of the many things we had to pass the ACA bill for to find out what's in it....it don't cover smokers.

The same is true for liver transplant candidates - they have to be alcohol-free for a certain period of time as well.

That personal responsibility thingy is hard for DUmmies to grasp.

2. If she changes her name to CHeney she can smoke during surgery

I think nic is bad for the heart and vascular system -- although smokeless nic might be different.

I get why they do this and I am a too heavy smoker myself. 6 months is long but plastic surgeons won't do a facelift if you're a current smoker (good ones, anyway).

I hate this but there are likely some actual stats and science behind this rule.

Regardless if the OP is a bouncy or not, this DUmmy wants a face job. She must be one ugly woman (as are all liberal women).
Come to think of it, unions do create jobs. Companies have to hire two workers to do the work of one.

I got a hunski that says the 21 year old smoker with a heart condition is getting treatment on our dime. Any takers?

Working in a medical practive that takes care of patients with CHF and that on a transplant list.  A cardiac condition that requires a transplant, rarely presents itself over night.  It is not like she was sitting on the stoop working her way thru a pack of reds and all of a sudden need a motor cycle accident to prolong her life.

She most likely was told to quit smoking months ago when she was originally diagnosed and put on drugs, blew off the advice and continued to get worse.
You see, I don't care you how feel.  I really don't.  More importantly, neither does anyone else.  Only about 200 people on a planet of 7 billion actually care about your feelings, and that's if you're lucky.  The sooner you grasp this lesson, the better off you will be.  And since almost no one gives a damn what you do, say, think, or feel, appealing to your feelings when you encounter differences of opinion is not only illogical, but useless.

That was brought up. It's supposedly something her dad had, but she went ahead and started smoking in spite of the dangers.  Make your bed- lie in it.

It is an unfortunate fact that there are not enough organs to help everybody who needs new organs, so when it comes to prioritizing who should get a new organ should we prioritize the people who are trying hard to limit their heath issues by not smoking, doing drugs, etc., or should we give them to people who are already abusing their body?

I think it might be enlightening to quote a probable DUmmie's response to a nurse friend of mine.  When my friend counselled the young bitch about laying off the meth and oxy during her pregnancy, she replied, "Who the f*** are you to criticize my lifestyle".
