Wait a minute.

You told Skins that you were dreaming Friday night of playing croquet with Claire Booth Luce, Leverett Saltonstall, and Wellington Koo.

So was I. Maybe you and I really are the same person!

Who was your fourth?

I have a lot of dreams like that, because of my addiction to Time magazine 1923-1941 and Life magazine 1936-1941--they went downhill after December 7, 1941; when I was a lad growing up in the Sandhills of Nebraska, the town librarian used to allow me to go down into the the basement and spend hot summer afternoons reading them (they had a complete collection).

They had a complete collection (it was destroyed in a flood sometime in the 1980s, alas).

This was a unique honor; she didn't allow anybody else to go down there.

And if I wanted to borrow any to take home to read, she let me do that, too.

So the dreams are usually of people from the era; many of them involve my dating Brenda Frazier or getting Rachele Mussolini and Elsa Maxwell drunk or winning poker against Louis Mayer and Paul McNutt or playing polo with Henry Stimson and Nicolai Bukharin.

Having lurking primitives over here is kind of like having fat nerdy four-eyes cousin Myron staying with one for a week or so during the summer; one doesn't care much for him, but one has to be nice to him.

Well, damn, we've had so many primitives lurking over here today--at about the ratio of four lurking primitives per each registered member--that I've been more than inhibited about speaking my piece about them.

Some times, for short times, there's been five or six to one, if not more.

(We used to be lucky when we attained a one-to-one ratio.)

My post count is nose-diving down to.....zero.

These "guests" are a nuisance.  I mean, I can be nice with no problem at all, saying only nice things about the primitives, but once in a while one needs a break, so as to have a chance to say what one really thinks.

My fellow alum Skins of course never replies to my clarebootheluce g-mails, because to do so would be acknowledging to the primitives that franksolich really exists, which would discombobulate his membership considerably.  So yes, it makes perfectly good sense for him to not do that.

However, if he doesn't do something about his people, the primitives, invading our turf uninvited, I guess I'll have to devise other means of barring primitives from this site so that decent and civilized people may frankly and honestly and straightforwardly discuss the primitives, no sugar-coating, no punches pulled.

Maybe they aren't Dummies, Frank. I know I read this place for a long time before I decided to register.

Just as an aside... because I'm curious Frank... why do you care what the Dummies think of us here? I certainly don't. PM me if you don't want to say it in public.   :cheersmate:

Well, one's supposed to be nice to guests--the old "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all."

I value my reputation as a nice guy, a guy who's nice to everybody.

And so consequently all these years, I've muted my criticism of the primitives, saying only nice things about them.

I dare any primitive to find a single example of when franksolich publicly said anything less than nice about them, any of them, one single time.

My personal estimation of the primitives, my honest opinion of them, is "**** you, primitives, **** you and the horses you rode into town on," but I don't say that because it's important that the primitives think franksolich is a nice guy, one of the nicest guys one can ever hope to meet.

I'm sorry, pal; I'm bitchy today.  Maybe tomorrow wil be better.
