All 25,000 students who took University of Liberia admission test fail

Not a single new student will be admitted into the University of Liberia this year after nearly 25,000 candidates failed the school’s admission exam.

A university official said students who took the $25 exam did not have a basic understanding of English, the BBC reports, and it was the first time that all entrants failed.

Liberia’s President, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, has said the country’s education system is still “in a mess” following a civil war that ended a decade ago.

It should--it'd certainly be a wakeup call that 1--education in this country is in a sorry state, 2--not everyone's child is a special snowflake that needs to go to college.

Exactly, too many people are going to college. One would thing with more people going to college, cost should go down, but it goes up a lot!

No way in Hell.  The US college education bureaucracy is one of the finest living examples of Parkinson's Law known to man.  They would simply add remedial programs and instructors, raise the tuition bills and tax demands to cover cost-plus-30%, lower the bar enough to fill all the remedial classes to 110%, then brag about how much they had done to address 'The crisis in higher education.'

How long have you guys lived in this country, anyway?

American Academe will always be fully funded, fully staffed, and fully attended.

It may be 100% Affirmative Action Admissions all majoring in Butthurt Studies with a minor in Queer Dialectics, but the stats will look "good" regardless.

What I like is the school made a cool $625,000 off of the applicants with little effort.

It's not just Liberian universities feeling the chill...

Quote
Hundreds of places were still available at major universities yesterday – nearly two weeks after A-level results came out.

Highly-regarded degrees being advertised include engineering, law, classics, politics and economics, and history.

The number of undergraduates that universities can take used to be governed by strict government quotas.

That was changed last year when they were allowed to take unlimited students as long as they had A-level grades of AAB or higher.

This year that was lowered to ABB, creating a free-for-all as top universities vied for bright students or poached those who did better than expected from less prestigious courses or institutions. ...
