I like the old time kitchens, the kind with just shelves and no cabinet doors.
Hubby had a fit when I took off the doors and put them in storage. I wanted to see at a glance what we had for canned goods and dried products as we were duplicating foods, pushing the older stuff to the back of a dark cupboard. Men design kitchen cabinets that are so high a little women like me has to stand on a chair to get stuff down. Doors and one never knows when they do go teetering on a chair to look for something that is not there.
I can tell at a glance what we are running out of and to tell the truth with all the bright labels it adds color to a blah kitchen. Also feels good to know in an emergency we do have food on hand.
No more on ones knees rooting about under dark under cabinets looking for glass cooking ware when all is in sight on a kitchen shelf.
Just me, I hate the under cabinets for every day use, with doors a good place to put the good china used a few times a year away. A good place for the cookware or gizmo's we use seldom the Juicers or bread makers.
My pantry is full of baking sheets and all kinds of stuff that sounded like a good idea at the time but we have not used in 5 years. We did cut a cat door in the Pantry and put our electronic litter box inside, as everything is boxed up, no problem with bacteria spreading.
To each their own, my kitchen is much like a restaurant kitchen, I need a food item, I can see it, I need a pot or pan, I see it.
Perhaps I should have a garage sale on the things I have not used in 10 years, kept hidden behind closed cabinet doors and forgotten about.
