Societies have a way of designating certain groups of people as "problematic" and then scapegoating them - as a class of people, without regard for individual distinctions within the designated group - as the source of the major problems that society faces. Most countries have done it at one time or another in their history. We've done it here in the United States.
Reading through reader responses throughout the online world of HoustonBelief.com, the larger chron.com site, and other major news sources in the country, I wonder if we aren't participating yet again in one of the oldest mechanisms in human social dynamics - group scapegoating. From the comments, three groups emerge as chiefly responsible for the central problems facing US society, and those whom we should fear the most: Muslims, homosexuals and immigrants.
Apparently, all Muslims (whether in the US or abroad) are outright terrorists, or are supportive of terrorist activity. They all hate the US and plan to take over the country and submit the entire population to sharia law. They have no respect for human rights, especially for women, and soon they will all declare armed jihad on non-Muslim US citizens.

More PC Bullshit. The author claims Americans are anti-gay, anti-Muslim, and anti-illegal immigrants. Uh, no one hates gay people, just radical gays. No one hates Muslims, just Muslim terrorists. And as for illegals, they are breaking the law. Case closed. I will tell you what I think are the evil.
