D.C. police are investigating whether a man will face criminal charges for shooting a pit bull that was attacking a child in his neighborhood.

The incident unfolded Sunday afternoon, after three pit bulls attacked an 11-year-old boy as he rode his bicycle through the Brightwood neighborhood of Northwest, according to a police report.

When the man, a neighbor, saw the boy being mauled by the dogs, he went inside his home and got a gun. The man killed one of the dogs. The gunfire attracted the attention of a police officer in the area near Eighth and Sheridan streets, where the attack occurred. The officer responded and shot the other two pit bulls as they continued to attack the boy.

The police report, which did not identify any of the people involved, said the boy suffered severe lacerations. The Washington Post, which first reported the details of the shooting, quoted the boy’s uncle as saying the boy was also shot in the foot.

Metropolitan Police Department spokeswoman Gwendolyn Crump said Wednesday that the entire case, including whether the man legally owned the gun he used to kill the dog, is under investigation.

While public opinion might be supportive of the man’s actions, he could still face significant charges depending on the outcome of the investigation, criminal defense attorney Daniel Gross said.

The man could face a host of charges depending on the specifics of the case, including whether the gun used is a registered firearm that the man was legally permitted to own, Mr. Gross said. Possession of an unregistered firearm or ammunition is punishable by up to one year in prison and a $1,000 fine, and determining whether the man legally possessed the gun used will likely have greater bearing on the way the case is handled, Mr. Gross said.

Also to be taken into consideration is whether the man was within his property line when he fired the weapon — a small but significant distinction. Mr. Gross said it could mean the difference in whether he could be charged with carrying a pistol without a license.

Only in a liberal shithole would it be a crime to kill some dope peddler's pit bulls while they were actively trying to eat a child but a liberal TV show host can wave a 30 round mag in front of a camera and have the US Attorney's office shrug their shoulders and walk away.

A wheelchair-bound U.S. Army vet wielded a pistol to run off a man who broke into his home in western Athens-Clarke County Wednesday afternoon.

“When I heard that door get kicked in, I reached into my night stand and grabbed my pistol,” Sikes said in an interview Thursday.

“I wasn’t going to wait to see if he had one,” Sikes said. “All I know is he was in my house. Things are starting to get out of hand, and if people don’t start standing up for themselves and putting crooks in the ground, the law is just going to slap them on the wrist and let them go.”

As life goes on I get a few flashbacks to the 1960's magazine MAD and Alfred E Newman------Darn but the satire back then has come to life today.

Spy vs. Spy is in front of our eyes now, funny then when we thought it a joke.  What we need today is a Conservative commic book like Mad to make fun of the liberals and the Democratic party. Based on the old "Mad" kids would buy this and their parents love it.

It would put artists to work and  do much to teach younger siblings to want to read to find out why everyone in the family is laughing.

In my generation most kids learned to read from the commics, All clean and great fun.

Authorities last week made an agreement not to prosecute a Northwest D.C. man who used his unregistered handgun to kill a pit bull in order to stop it from mauling a child in his neighborhood.

As part of the agreement, Benjamin Srigley, 39, was required to pay a $1,000 fine but will not have criminal charges filed against him for the three unregistered firearms and the ammunition that investigators found in his possession, said Ted Gest, a spokesman for the office of the attorney general.

“We took it into account that he saved this boy’s life,” Mr. Gest said.

Seeing the attack, Mr. Srigley went inside his home to get his Ruger 9 mm pistol while several other men hopped over fences to get away from the dogs, court records state.

From behind the wooden fence of his front lawn, Mr. Srigley began firing at the dogs. His shots attracted the attention of a Metropolitan Police Department officer on bicycle patrol nearby, and he also opened fire on the dogs, killing the other two.

The boy survived the attack but now bears scars on his elbow, torso and leg as a reminder.

Jayeon’s family is thankful for Mr. Srigley, crediting him for saving the boy’s life.

In addition to deciding how to handle Mr. Srigley’s case last week, authorities also made the decision to press charges against the dogs’ owner, Alan Paige.

Mr. Paige, who lives a block north of the corner where the attack occurred, will face nine criminal charges — including three counts of possession of a dangerous dog, three counts of having an unleashed dog, and three counts of allowing a dog to go without a collar. The charges account for each of the three dogs, Mr. Gest said.

I'm always stunned when I hear an uproar about "unlicensed" or "unregistered" firearms, and it's ALWAYS in Prog states. Every time we read about it, it's always followed by something about charges. I could not live in a state like that. Down here, you don't have to register shit.
