We can all rest easy, because the crazy bald dwarf is on the job, her ear cocked to that scanner, keeping track of all the little dead grass fires on vacant lots around the San Diego area.
If they get big enough, she can don the Nomex and the steel-toed boots, and stamp them out. Many are literally that small.
As you can imagine, nadin's attempts to keep her little flock safe and secure bring out the bullies in force.

Breaking news: We have a new largish brush fire
In So Cal. This is the "harvest fire," in the Otay Mesa area east of Bown Field. Per local Cal-Fire it's 15-20 acres, and poses a threat to a salvage yard. It's also a stone throw away from the Mexican border, as in a mile best case.

Here in red state hell, we're even closer to San Diego.
It's been raining all day, but you never know for sure.
I'll be sure to check nadin's updates tonight before I go to bed.

20. I've wondered why there are no reports of 'brush' fires other than the San Diego area.
Farmers in my area burn their fields every spring, and even I burned about an acre last week. No reportage.

13. Camarillo in Ventura County: 10,500 acres and spreading
Nadin, old buddy, back away from the keyboard for awhile. I know that big fires start as little ones, but right now other people have a really big one to contend with. Like this one just down the road from me:
Poor DUmmy Hekate just doesn't understand the heavy responsibility of a pennysaver correspondent and her scanner:

17. It's not. At least, it shouldn't be.
If you have someone telling you that transcribing scanner chatter about a local fires onto the general discussion forum of political website is part of the job, they are wrong.

23. Sorry, but as I sit here in Hollywood seeing the smoke from a nearby Glendale fire...
I turn to DU General Discussion to read about small fires being put out in SD.
Don't you come here first for all your SD fire info?

24. I have to, the two larger than largish fires close to me in Northern California got no mention on DU
None!
Donning my Nomex® cap: the fires started on May Day, proof unrestrained globalization can be blamed on Volunteer firemen.

27. Hopefully...
You won't have to "chage into something positively less comfy, long pants, steel Toe boots and nomex layers".

50. A 10-15 acre fire is not breaking news in any way.
Yours is a tiny local story. It's not of national interest. It's barely of local interest, except to the people immediately adjacent to it.
I'm sorry, but I don't think that is what DU or GD is about.
