How to replace a dryer belt.
« on: March 15, 2013, 11:51:42 AM »
Here are the steps required to replace a broken dryer belt. Most are what actually happened a couple are added to make it more amusing.

1. The easy part, watch a video on the Home Depot website showing just how easy it will be.
Totally disregard video since the guy in the video does this for a living and it's very easy for him. For you it will be much harder. Your dryer will turn out to be different and the video you just watched won't help a bit.
Grab your toolbox, look for tools required by what you saw in the video.
Look all around the house for your 11 in one tool, search the truck and realize the damn thing is at work.
Search for alternative tools that are not in the toolbox because some idiot didn't put them back.
Realize you are the idiot mentioned in step 5. Apologize to the pets for all your cursing and swearing.
Grab the tools you did manage to find and that you will lose on this project.
Take out the screws on the dryer, you think so far so good.
Try to pry off the retaining clips without breaking them. Good luck there.
After wresting for half an hour you finally have the top and front of dryer removed.
Panic because you forgot to put screws in a safe place.
Hunt for screws, give up find replacement screws from some other project that you gave up on.
Find screws that you did put in a safe place but forgot about.
Grab the dryer belt see that it is broken and look for part online.
Call every store in your town and find out no one carries them.
Have a friend tell you about the only place in town that has them, but it's a day trip just to get through traffic.
Wait until you can drive across town to get part.
Buy part and take it home.
Now the real fun begins, get home have dog bug you because he wants to go out.
Take dog out and watch him eat grass and play.
Drag dog in house and go to the laundry room.
Put belt on drum, put drum in machine.
Put belt on pulley and catch your finger.
Catch thumb in between drum and side of dryer as you align the belt.
Attempt to put front on and wonder why it doesn't fit.
Realize you put drum in backwards.
Start over steps 22 through 24.
Realize that nutplate fell off the dryer and take whole thing apart again to find missing piece.
Look all around dryer and finally find nutplate.
Do steps 22 through 24 again.
31. Wrestle with front of dryer as you try to get the stupid clips to lock in place.
32. Realize that you left back door open and dog has got out.
Chase dog, have crazy cat lady from down the street threaten to sue you for your scaring her cats. Tell crazy lady if you had anything worth suing for you would not be trying to fix a 30 year old dryer.
Go back to dryer get front attached and realize the nutplate fell off again. This time you are lucky because you spot it right away.
Put in screws on right side, goes right in no problems.
Wrestle with left side to get it aligned just right then search for wrench to tighten because the socket wrench walked off.
Get screws tightened in.
Find socket wrench.
Plug in dryer turn on and nothing.
Take top off dryer and see you forgot to plug the stupid door switch back up.
Spend 20 minutes trying to remember how the wires went, say screw it and just hook them up.
Put dryer back together.
43. Turn on dryer it works Yay!
Watch in horror as your screwdriver falls behind dryer.
Pull out dryer unplug it grab screwdriver.
Finally done! Go inside and bandage tore up hands.
I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.
