Ya'know, for a bunch of people who are constantly crying about poverty and "the rich" they sure do seem to have a surplus of disposable income.

Perhaps they'd look a tad less contradictory if they were to dine-in on vegan-chilli more often and donate their spare cash to a worthy cause. It looks better than rather than eating some gaudy shit at a dressed up yuppiehut full of other pretentious wankers and bitching about how the rich are oppressing the poor.

Just myself, I consider a perfectly cooked camp-oven roast around an open fire some-place in the great outdoors to be about the finest dining that one can have.

Some of the best meals I have ever eaten have been during deer season, at deer camp.  Cooked in an oven in the camp (runs on propane) or on a propane griddle.  No one's ever blown up, either (at least, not from the propane).

You have to hit Whiffleball's link and go see this menu!   :lmao:  It's a hoot!

Quote
Roasted Squab with Dried Fruit Compote, Star Anise and Ginger Sauce
Sunchoke, Kumquat, Brussels Sprouts, Shallot

Quote
Striped Bass with Celery Root, Grapefruit & Ivory Lentils
Parsley, Salsify, Avocado, Vanilla

Why ruin a perfectly good bass?   :hammer:

This is listed as a "main course" selection:

Quote
Globe Artichoke with Roasted Sunchokes and Eggplant Caviar & Pinenut
Cronses, Beluga Lentils, Tarragon, Baby Carrot

They wrestled the bone from Rover and made this:

Quote
Smoked Pork Shank with Butter Braised Potato & Bourbon Sherry Sauce
Parsnip, Collard Greens, Turnip, Pecan

It's all disgusting, and $99 per person.

Too complicated. Too many competing flavors in each food, so nothing tastes like anything.

Fish- should taste like a fish. Not celery, parsley, salsify (had to look that one up), avocado, and vanilla.

Karin,

The last time I was there, on a gift certificate, I had ravioli for my entree.  I got exactly two raviolis, two, that were each as big as a silver dollar.  The first course was gazpacho served in espresso cups.  When we were getting ready to leave the maitre d' came over with a cookie the size of a quarter for each of us in case we "felt a bit peckish."  Peckish?  We were all starving.

Is that eggplant with caviar on it, or caviar made from the eggplant's eggs?

All it is, is mashed-up eggplant.

!!!  Go see my "Friday Pics" thread in the Pictures and Photoshops section.

Whiffleball, the joint sounds like DUmmie Central.  Pretentious, yet the clientele are too stupid to realize they're being starved.

Once I spent about $250 for dinner for the wife and I at Emeril's New Orleans Fish House in Lost Wages. It sucked.
