Cleita primitive almost willing to help others.... almost
« on: February 05, 2013, 08:29:44 PM »
Quote from:
Cleita

I passed a homeless couple on my way to the dentist.

The sat by the side of the road hunched with a hand lettered cardboard sign that read, "COLD AND HUNGRY, PLEASE HELP".

I thought I would stop and give them a $20. I wanted to ask to take a picture of them and their sign. I want to start documenting this in case I can get someone's attention about these people. I then remembered that I had to pay the dentist and I would barely have enough money to pay my rent and buy groceries for the rest of the month after that. I didn't feel it would be right to take their picture without giving them something and, of course, asking their permission.

I have seen many homeless with the same signs with variations of the same message that they are hungry and need help. I know we have services in my town, so I went on line to find where they were. I discovered that the services for medical help, for food, for clothing and for shelter are miles apart. Our public transportation is woefully inadequate and too expensive for people who have nothing. There are soup kitchens in several of the churches, but they are far away from one of the few shelters in the county. There is a shelter for women, but it comes with strings attached like Bibles and lectures. All the services except for the medical clinics (two of them that service all the poor, not just the homeless), are run by churches. Most of the services specialize in whom they help and turn others away that aren't their specialty.

It struck me how awful it has to be to go begging from those religious folks, who give you a meal and a Bible. They can't offer anything else to help these people, who have to travel miles to get other services they need. It has been miserably cold and wet here even though it's California. Many of these folks camp and sleep on the beach when they aren't chased away. There was a notice that our County government had received $300,000 for the year for the homeless so they were going to meet to decide how they were going to allocate the money. Are they kidding? This is so inadequate to address the problem. They are talking about campgrounds. Really, this is the best the County can come up with? Our government has to do better. This can't go on.

:thatsright:

I'm disgusted because I have been socially to many of the residences in my area. These people live in palaces. To go to their homes one is unaware that there is a depression going on and thousands of people including children are out in the street. The talk is of the latest restaurant, theater production or art exhibit they have gone to. Charity is about going someplace else like Mexico to do charity work, yet I read that there were enough homeless children in my county to fill one elementary school. This is so disgusting.

Sorry, I just had to rant about this.

But she did pay lip service to seeing homeless people and wanting to do something, and that's the same as actually doing something in liberalworld.  And she knows some rich people and wouldn't be like them if she were one of them, so that counts for something, too.

Of course, those hateful religious folks who are actually doing something to help the homeless are to be ashamed.  They're not doing it the way those who only give lip service would do it if they were the ones helping.  They offer them a meal and a Bible.  That's right, they're actually feeding these homeless people and providing women's shelters.  "They can't offer anything else to help these people" says the person who did nothing.  But she did write on Skin's island about it, so that's really better than a meal.

Well, DUmpmonkey Cleita seems to be channeling Pam Dawson. She lives in an area of palatial residences, but can't spare a lousy 20?

kpete has a roll of twenties beside her toilet.

Why doesn't Cleita invite some of these winos, honest victims of the 0conomy, to bunk at her place?

Cops would give homeless people a ride to a shelter.  Problem isn't the Bible reading, it's not being allowed to do drugs and booze while partaking in free food and shelter.

Why not just take them to one of the atheist centers?  I don't see the problem.

Right on target.

The Cleita primitive's pretty old; she has reminisced about how Los Angeles was, pre-second world war.

Maybe like the case of the pie-and-jam primitive or CalPig, it's simply senescence.

Its a Biblical commandment to help the poor. What's wrong with that? "Oh he's giving you food! Worse he's giving you a Bible too!" What ungrateful fools.

Good on you for doing what you can and for everyone who does do what they can, but we need better. This homeless situation has been going on since 1980. Our government has to do something better than campgrounds. I think those rich people in big houses can afford a higher property tax to fund a program to end homelessness once and for all.

That's right, dear ones.  Prior to 1980 homelessness wasn't as big of a problem as it became.  In 1979, there were very few homeless, and those who were homeless were much better off.  As soon as 1980 rolled around, BAM!!, suddenly things were completely different.  My guess is that from 1993-2000 and 2009-present the Cleita primitive would say the homeless had it better, too.

And those rich people in big houses think Cleita should at least raise her finger to do something at all before she has a right to complain about what others should be doing.

Just shut up, Cleita primitive.  You wore out your welcome on this planet a long time ago, you hatemonger.

Oh poor, put upon Cleita. Martyr for the poor.  Fighting the evil religious and their plans to take over the world with food and Bibles! Will it never end? Cleita has suffered under the horrible strain of doing absolutely nothing for the  poor.  She spent her hard earned time posting all the wonderful nothings she's done for the downtrodden.

Cleita, I offer you a round of applause as a token of appreciation for all that you don't do for the poor. You deserve so much more!

Enjoy this while you can.  It won't be long before dentistry will be considered "health care" and be subject to Barry's grand plan.

Something should have struck you upside your thick skull.  The churches ARE DOING SOMETHING to help, and it doesn't involve a bureaucrat.  How novel.

So, you rub elbows socially with many of the residents in the area who "live in palaces", yet you're too broke CHEAP to throw a Jackson out your Audi's window for some homeless people, because you "remembered that I had to pay the dentist and I would barely have enough money to pay my rent and buy groceries for the rest of the month after that."

They know nothing about what religious organizations do for the needy.  Our ministry doesn't give out Bibles unless someone asks for one.  We don't ask what religion you are.  We do works for Christ.  We wouldn't even turn Cleita away if she lived locally.  Sounds like she could use the help and learn a thing or two about our "hateful" religious organization.

Every church in our county donates to this cause.  We give money for utility bills, clothing, household items, prescriptions, dental care and food.  We're not the federal government, so our funds are limited, but anyone can get free food and clothing at any time.

25. Okay, you lost me.

It's their fault in your mind. The reason they fall into those categories is because all the safety nets we once had that took care of dysfunctional people were dismantled by Reagan first in California and then nationwide when he became President. We had no homeless before then. We had hobos and hippies who were social drop outs, but they could drop back in society when they tired of being home free.

Besides that idiotic idea that there were no homeless, zero, before 1980, I notice they have a new phrase, "home free."  It's ****ing annoying.  "I am free of a home.  Ain't life grand?"   If someone uses this phrase in real life, I'm slapping them.

That meeting should take no more than a few minutes. You just divide $300,000 by the price of a one-way bus ticket to California.

That tells you how many winos you can get off the streets.

What's wrong with a campground?

I stay in a campground every year for a couple of weeks.  It's great. They even have bathrooms, showers and running water.

She's in California.  Now what do you do?  I thought the messiah was going to make this all go away, anyway.
