Calif. marijuana dispensary owner gets 10 years on federal charges
A federal court Monday sentenced a California man to ten years in prison for doing something that’s legal in his state. Aaron Sandusky was convicted in October on federal charges of distributing marijuana — he is one of four defendants in the United States who have faced federal prosecutors over medical marijuana dispensaries in states where medical marijuana is legal.

Sandusky, 42, ran three dispensaries in Southern California’s Inland Empire area. Medical marijuana dispensaries have been legal according to California state law since 1996.

According to reports, Sandusky told the courtroom Monday, “I want to apologize to those with me and their families who have been victimized by the federal government who has not recognized the voters of this state.”

Sandusky’s case, like a handful of others in California and one in Montana, highlights some of the harshest fallout to come of the ongoing conflict between federal and state marijuana law. As the AP reported, “California’s four federal prosecutors launched a coordinated crackdown on the state’s medical marijuana industry in 2011 by threatening landlords with property forfeiture actions. Since then, hundreds of pots shops have gone out of business.”

DUmmies think because a state will attempt to legalize drugs, that they're safe. Nope.

A heads up to lurking DUmmies. If you get a medical approval for pot, you can never buy a gun legally again. The federal form 4473 asks if you're a drug user. Answer no and you committed a felony.

Legalizing cannabis turns a money pool controlled by cartels into a stream of jobs, taxes and revenue that benefit all citizens.

Nowhere near the annual jobs, taxes and revenue that the war on drugs generate.

This is not about prohibition, Elwood, it is about your Messiah a.k.a. the leader of the Choom Gang, getting his cut.

Wonder how they're going to feel about states rights when the states start ignoring new gun bans.

If your state had no law against owning a grenade launcher and live frags for it, and the ATF got wind of it and snapped you up, you would still be totally screwed if they decided they wanted to make an example of you.  Exactly the same thing applies to state 'Legalization' of pot - all it does is make the STATE unable to prosecute you, it doesn't mean a damned thing under Federal law.

On December 12, 1989, Congress amended Title XII of the Higher Education Act of 1965. This amendment, known as the “Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act of 1989” requires that every educational institution receiving federal funding certify its adoption and implementation of programs designed to prevent use of illegal drugs and abuse of alcohol by students and employees. Prior federal law applicable to the College regulated only criminal drug activity of federally grant-funded employees and recipients of federal aid.

Colleges that receive federal funds can not allow drug use on campus, or they could lose their federal dollars.

7. How is this fair?  We still have shops open and doing business here in Ca. If these shops pay federal taxes, how can the feds bust them? Or how can the feds take the money of organizations they feel are shady. I hate hearing about this shit.

35. ASA: Obama worse than Bush..

Far surpassing his predecessor George W. Bush, President Obama has conducted more than 200 SWAT-style raids on state-compliant medical marijuana businesses and has indicted more than 80 people since he took office

True, but not really the same thing, since there isn't any criminal prosecution issue in that school funding aspect...and I doubt the Oministration puts any effort at all into enforcing it.

Obama probably wouldn't , but I did see something about colleges in Washington not allowing students to possess pot on campus after they legalized it.
