Family Mad After Dolphin Bites Girl at SeaWorld, But 8-year-old broke the rules (video)

Family is not getting a lot of internet support as you can imagine. The girl moved the paper plate away from the dolphin and the dolphin tried to retrieve it

<snip>

In the November 21 video, you can see Jillian feeding dolphins from a paper plate when she mistakenly picked up the plate—against SeaWorld instructions—and the dolphin momentarily bit her. "I was thinking it was going to haul me into the water," says Jillian. What's more, her mother says, SeaWorld staffers never offered a Band-Aid or told them to look for signs of infection. But a SeaWorld spokeswoman says health staffers "quickly responded" to Jillian, who had been given "specific instructions to not pick up the paper trays at any

2. Whiney little brat

My parents response would have been "Serves you right for not doing what you were told. So suck it up."

I loved her mom's comment in the video about how it was important for them to get the picture of her hand. Yep, important to the huge monetary settlement they want to get from Sea World.

What an asshole response. She wasn't teasing the dolphin or doing anything untoward and somehow she's a whiny brat who deserved to get bit? Got what was coming to her? She's eight years old, what the hell is wrong with you?

The parents may well be angling for some cash but being so mean to this kid is just dickish and outrageous. I hope you don't have any children of your own.

Animal Rights, let the DA charge the dolphin and let it be decided by a jury of its peers.

Yeah I saw that one yesterday. The normally sue-happy DUmbasses are all up in arms over the child's parents wanting to bring suit, plus a couple of nasty comments about the little girl, too. They act like it's the dolphin that would be the focus of the suit rather than Sea World.

I'm 100% against frivolous lawsuits, but this one has some merit to my mind. These parks have a responsibility to provide safe attractions. The child's split-second lapse in following "the rules" shouldn't be equated with reckless behavior on her part or the parents. If this risk existed enough to warn visitors about it then a safer way to feed the animals should have been provided. Something like a fixed metal tray maybe on the outside of the wall, with the vendors placing the fish in the tray rather than a paper plate to be held by the children comes to mind. Just MHO.

Sue the dolphin!! Do a recount for hanging shads.
This case is no red herring!
Don't let this flounder in the courts. Carp till they cave.
It's Bush's fault, and those pesky Joooos, too.
Then-Chief Justice John Marshall observed, “Between a balanced republic and a democracy, the difference is like that between order and chaos.”

John Adams warned in a letter, “Remember democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet, that did not commit suicide.”

I'm having a hard time feeling sorry for anybody but the dolphin.

If a kid goes to a petting zoo and one of the goats nips her, the kid learns a lesson: "Animals can bite you, even cute little goats".

The same kid gets nipped by a dolphin: "Maybe I shouldn't be feeding a dolphin from a paper plate."

The dolphin was thinking, "Before they caught me, I was kicking sharks' asses and munching on fresh salmon. Now I'm eating cold hotdogs off a ******* paper plate. Somebody's gonna pay!"

Seriously, though, the story in the Washington Post says the little girl hopes the dolphin didn't get sick from the paper container, and she prays for the dolphin. She's a nice little girl.

Win, lose or draw, the practice of feeding flipper has come to an end.

No, sorry, I don't buy this at all.

How do you expose a child, or an adult for that matter, to an animal in a fashion that would prevent (and by that I absolutely prevent) possible injury.

Obviously the answer is it is not possible.

Dogs, cats, ferrets, rats, sting rays, dolphins, monkeys that tear your face off, deer that you hit on the road.

Look, I get it, pay the family a large sum of money and then close down any attraction that might expose a human to something that has a tooth or a stinger.

Good deal, the lawyers will win again.
