I go to the Salvation Army in Portsmouth Rt1. ALL the time...Senior citizen discounts on Tuesdays. bundle up mum, and here we go.....This particular store color codes all their clothes. They have different color tags, and they will choose two colors at random, and those are 50% off...

maybe since business must pay employees even if they have no money the enlightened democrats will allow them to print employee paychecks when they go bankrupt.

Ok another thing, I have clothes older then 2 years too. Is that such a tragedy? We have seasons here and there is no reason I can't wear a sweater I wear last year the next since chances are it's gotten very little wear since I have a few of them. I'm not seeing the problem with 2 years. Hell, I still have a pair of mom jeans with belt loops big enough for those wide belts we wore in the 80's/90's...not that I ever wear them, just for nostalgia purposes :-)

And I have a striking Tribal jacket and pants that are over 12 years old.  I paid way too much for them, but they've remained stylish through the years.  I even have a sweatshirt that's 15 years old!

Those wide belts are coming back.  I wish I'd held onto mine now.

don't I know it...I wear it to actually cinch the waist around a larger/longer blouse and my teenage daughter wears them now at waist level too. I lost quite a bit of weight over the last several years so I have newer things, but that was mostly because I needed clothes that fit me better. Like you, I seem to pick things out that I can wear for years. I've noticed jean trends and generally you should be able to get a good 6-10 years out of a pair of jeans(style wise) before the overall style changes--like it went from high waist to lower waist. High waist was in for a decade or better. Low waist has been in for several years now. No reason to throw something out like that. I have a hard time parting with old clothes in good shape too. If I like the pattern they will often become a purse or satchel or something :-)

Saw a comment on that Toledo Blade site:

I find this funny that once you cut into entitlements it is always doom and gloom. When Americans REALLY suffer i.e Sandy, they are considered resilient and can bounce back. Average Americans went through some kind of loss through the recession and have bounced back in some kind of way. Are you saying $50.00 dollars will kill people? I believe it will change their spending habits yes. Sometimes that is needed. The problem is this. There is no proof that entitlement spending corrects poverty. It only increases it. It causes dependency among low income families. It is worse under Obama's Administration by removing the "will to work" policies that Clinton instilled in the welfare program during his administration. The very fact that Democrats would be willing to increase taxes during an unsettled economy is beyond my belief and studies of economics. The fact is this. If we increase taxes, this will not help the situation. Democrats always find new ways to spend it instead of hitting the root cause for it. You can blame Republicans for being greedy all you want but the real problem is spending. I say give the Democrats what they want to prove a point. True conservatives will know what to do with their money once this happens. We can make money from the move. Once the troops that they rallied begin to fall a part and see that choosing a Prom King was not such a good idea, then they will be willing to listen to conservative solutions. I love my country and would not want to see people fall. But sometimes you have to offer tough love like we do our children and let them experience failure at its best.

What did I tell you guys about what I've been seeing here lately. Hoping this is the new trend!

There's a reason why patriotism is considered a conservative value. You know, the last time money was really, really tight at my house, Jimmy Carter was president.....what a coincidence.

Ok, I said this on our facebook site, but I'll say it here. This actually has nothing to do with the election; it would have went down either way:

Quote
What’s called the “standard utility allowance” — the amount deducted from a person’s income when the state determines his or her eligibility for the food stamp program — will decrease by $166 for 2013, translating to about $50 less per household in food assistance. State Job and Family Services officials tried to appeal the change to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which oversees the food stamp program, officially known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, but the USDA denied the request.

*cut*

Because of the way the federal government calculates utility expenses for people receiving the benefit, a mild winter nationwide last year, and a lower price for natural gas, many families could experience a significant cut in aid, those familiar with the program say

This changes yearly from how I understand it and it's going down due to the mild winter last year in many northern states which brought the average utility cost down. What probably is not being addressed is why didn't any of these folks hedge the extra $ they saved on utilities for a rainy day when things changed so 50 bucks a month doesn't hurt. And btw that might hurt for someone on the line of the program who is a working person, middle income with children who is stretching and throwing in a little to maybe 150 or 200 a month they get to help supplement their working income, but taking 50 bucks away from a non working person who gets 600 a month with 3 kids is not going to make a dent. That's WAY more then a family that size needs for food so in that range we probably are going to cut down on some fraud, obesity, or see what the scumbags with the kids are really made of when the kids go without because they still sell what's leftover on the side for other crap. Hell I'd rather give 200 bucks to every working poor a month who are making the damn effort to help with food(that's a modest amount for a family of 4 or 5) instead of 600 to some lazy Jerry Springer watching heffer with a few brats who have zero guidance. But I'm digressing here--it's the perpetually lazy who piss me off, not the people trying to bridge the gap with changing life circumstances or the *REAL* disabled but that's another rant for another day

This caught my eye though:

Quote
The average food-stamp recipient receives $138 per person, per month, according to state statistics

If this is the case, that means the average person receiving food stamps is either a) not working or b) working in the neighborhood of 10-20 hours a week at minimum wage. I wish we would weed out the cases of the perpetually lazy who we continue to feed.

A hero of Obama once said:

"The way to crush the bourgeoisie is to grind them between the millstones of taxation and inflation."
Vladimir Lenin

Like good old Vlad, Obama is not a fan of the middle class.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.
