White House cancels annual Halloween celebration

There's no trick-or-treating at the White House this Halloween.

After three straight years of passing out goodies to area students and military children in the White House driveway rain or shine, President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, broke their Halloween tradition this year because of superstorm Sandy that walloped the East Coast earlier this week.

The White House says hundreds of treat bags each containing White House M&Ms, an orange-frosted, pumpkin-shaped sugar cookie, jelly beans and some dried fruit will be delivered to the White House Military Office and to school districts in Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia that would have participated in the celebration.

Pumpkins used to decorate the White House for the fright fest will be donated to area shelters.

you know that's the only reason he's play acting now. He had flown down to FL for a campaign event the night of the storm but then flew back to DC when he was told he would look better if he stayed in DC to "monitor" the situation.

These people are such frauds.

for some reason I don't buy into the health food thing, and that she's not a junk food junkie herself

she joked on a recent tv show about her purses, and that all she ever carries in them are french fries.  I've never ever known a woman who carries around french fries in her purse.

I carried a burger and FF in a purse once. But I admit I was sneaking them into a movie theater. I was starving and didn't want to pay $50 for a bucket of stale popcorn. :shrug:

Yeah, she is harping about what other people eat, and her and Barry are two of the most unhealthy eaters in America. Neither one of them know the meaning of 'Practice What You Preach' ...

I don't know what they'll do with them, but during my stay in Vienna, Austria I stopped by some restaurant and had a meal that chicken and pumpkin medallions in a sauce served over rice.  They thought I was nuts when I asked if they had a recipe.

If the shelters have kitchens, there is a lot they can do with pumpkins.  They are in the squash family and a great source of vitamins too.  Breads, cookies, cakes, muffins, pies, pancakes, soups, and like you said, even in a chicken recipe.
