The Florida State Board of Education passed a plan that sets goals for students in math and reading based upon their race.
 
On Tuesday, the board passed a revised strategic plan that says that by 2018, it wants 90 percent of Asian students, 88 percent of white students, 81 percent of Hispanics and 74 percent of black students to be reading at or above grade level. For math, the goals are 92 percent of Asian kids to be proficient, whites at 86 percent, Hispanics at 80 percent and blacks at 74 percent. It also measures by other groupings, such as poverty and disabilities, reported the Palm Beach Post.

Others in the community agreed with Lopez’s assessment. But the Florida Department of Education said the goals recognize that not every group is starting from the same point and are meant to be ambitious but realistic.

This whole policy is a shining example of the liberal view of outcome based education with emphasis upon making sure the kids self-esteem is placed above their educational needs.  There is no argument or further discussion to be made; this law is a direct result of where liberal policies lead.  The principle here can be applied to any number of other daily activies where the left has artificially inserted their version of "fairness" and why those policies fail over and over again.

For reasons which completely butt heads against their ideology, the primitives find this new Florida law to not be to their liking.  Once again, things that the rest of us can clearly see as being something that will eventually happen fails to click with the political left until it actually happens.  Then they run from the results of their own ideology and try to blame others.

On one hand, it's typical and funny to see them having to twist over failures of their own making.  OTOH, these are real kids with real lives who are going to be hurt, and will continue to be hurt, by liberal idelogy and liberal policies.

AA stands for Alcoholics Anonymous. If you are a part of it more power to you.

I'm a color so I was a child of color. My color is white. At least white-ish.

If AA stands for what I'm sure you meant for it to stand for my thoughts are: be an American and call yourself an American, no matter your color, or just leave. There's no need to be a hyphenated something.

Don't function at the standard - don't pass through to the next grade until you do, and no cheating by making the test easier.

Didn't ya see where they went on strike because the state wanted to hold them accountable in Chicago? Gave 'em a 16% raise I think, and removed the requirement that they actually had to teach the kids.

Just for yucks, the private sector in most places didn't even get a cost of living raise.

I suspect this may have to do with schools not wanting to lose funding because of not meeting academic goals.

42. Well I was thinking the same thing.

Affirmative action basically gives extra points to minorities, is that not sending the same message. I have always had a problem with affirmative action because it does not take into consideration the economic circumstances of the students. It makes the assumption that all minorities are poor and underprivileged and all white children are not. That's just is not true.

The best way to make sure all children get the same opportunities to succeed. We should fund head start programs for all children so they all go into kindergarten equally prepared. We should also make sure that all children receive free meals in school, if needed, so they do not have to worry about hunger when trying to learn.

I understand the goals of Affirmative Action, and it's helped many of my people....but.... it does still send the message that we are not as capable as other groups. We need to stop blaming others and take a good hard look at us

Affirmative Action targets the behavior of other people, making up for unjust gaps in hiring, wages, school admissions, etc. This thing you posted targets expectations of kids and as you rightly pointed out, influences their self esteem.

Not hiring based on race, etc.

The idea that affirmative action puts less qualified people into jobs and schools is a right wing myth. It's purpose it to level the playing field for people who are constantly up against racial biases when applying for jobs, etc.

My step brother went to a magnet school for middle and high school and both times they were like C grade or worse schools if the magnet programs weren't there. Also when I passed my GED earlier this year majority of the graduates were colored people. Maybe 70% were black and maybe about 28% spanish, and 2% of white kids who were stoners waiting for government money (That last bit was from someone I knew when I was in night school who said that, about 3 other people agreed to it, Obama Sonz)
