Earlier today, when walking by a bulletin board on my way to the men's room at a gasoline station, I noticed a poster advertising a "dinner/dance" at the big city's Knights of Columbus Hall.

Eight tickets for $240.  Ouch.  But apparently they sell.

A regional band, the Outback Band, and then "Tom Sadge as Neil Diamond."

Tom is a guy who I guess vaguely resembles Neil Diamond on pharmaceuticals that make the lower part of his head swell.

No commentary on musical quality, because I have no way of determining that.

However.

I'm aware there's been impersonators of the late Elvis Presley before, and have always been curious about something.

What is the attraction of impersonators?

Are impersonators pretty good, or lousy?

Has any impersonator been better than the original?

A band I've been hearing a lot of lately has been Creedence Clearwater Revisited.

I think more than anything, it's a matter of curiosity. People who appreciated the real McCoy wouldn't mind plunking down a couple of bucks to see some guy do a credible imitation of the artist that brings back those many memories.

In Vegas, particularly, the Elvis and other impersonators seem to be somewhat popular. While it definitely ain't my cup of tea, there are those who go off to see such acts because it's something to do and there might be a memory or two thrown in the mix.
