Those are just wierd looking but beautiful.   They look supernaturalish.

They look like a painting done for a sci-fi story.

I'm guessing it was taken at sunset with low-speed film (or the digital equivalent).  It gives you that rich, deep color saturation that you don't normally get from a regular camera.

Galen Rowell was great at that.
