Oh my.

For whatever it's worth; I doubt many primitives know where "El Cajon" is, or cares.

I wish she'd go down to Ensenada, to give us the crunchy on what's going on there.

FORMER EL CAJON COUNCIL MEMBER JILLIAN HANSON-COX PLEADS GUILTY TO FEDERAL CHARGES

September 14, 2012 (San Diego)—Former El Cajon Councilwoman Jillian Hanson-Cox appeared today before U.S. Magistrate Judge William W. Gallo. Her voice flat and without emotion, Hanson-Cox pled guilty to one count of mail fraud and one count of failing to report income on her tax returns.

Charges filed against her state that “beginning no later than April 2004, and continuing through at least October 2008,” Hanson-Cox devised a plan to defraud her employer, Century Design, INC. (CDI). The plea agreement states that Hanson-Cox embezzled over $3.5 million from her employer, where she served as Comptroller.

“I’m shocked,” Councilman Gary Kendrick told ECM. “It’s completely out of character for the Jillian that I know. She was always compassionate and generous, played by the rules I sat next to her for eight years on the City Council and there as nothing to lead me to believe this could happen…She worked countless hours on community events,” he said, adding, “I can’t think of a person who was more civically active than she was. I was just really saddened by what happened.”

U.S. Attorney Laura Duff stated in a media release, “While embezzling millions of dollars from CDI, former Councilwoman Hanson-Cox not only traded on her reputation as a public official, but also betrayed every citizen who expected her to act honestly in both her private and public affairs."

Politics in El Cajon, never a dull moment...

How come the party affiliation isn't noted, though?

1. Who is Laura Duff?

There is a U.S. Attorney named Laura Duffy in San Diego. Not familiar with a Laura Duff.

2. I will send a note to editor.

Suffice it to say, that was not mine.

Sent.

Anyhow, this was a sad story to a point, many in the media gaggle felt sorry for the mother.

"Suffice it to say, that was not mine."  That was obvious since the spelling and composition was way beyond the spheroid's capacity.

I'm trying to find out the political affiliation of this Jillian character; there's stories about her in that web-site, but none of them them say.

I however thought this comment at the end of one amusing.  Or perhaps ironic; who knows.

:lmao: I could tell it wasn't a spelling mistake by nads because there was only one letter wrong. Nads would have had the name "Laura Duffy" as Legrot Duste. She would swear that she was the one correct and that the attorney was the one spelling her own name wrong. Probably because of something President Bush did. And it would probably be a sign of a trend that is leading to the destruction of all life as we know it. And she would be an expert trained and experienced in dealing with that particular destruction of all life.

Bless her heart.

If everyone is telling you you deserve something, vote for the one who is promising you the least. Be suspicious of the man or woman who tell you deserve everything. Because you don’t.” ---Mike Rowe

4. Just another example of the excellent fact-checking they do at East County Magazine.

That's what happens when people pretend to be actual journalists...

You'd think the Dummies would be happy that an evil 1%'er corporation got it's just desserts when the money was taken.

She's donated thousands to GOP candidates, including Duncan Hunter. Surprised the DUmpmonkeys didn't do a simple political donation search (link); guess the lurkers will let them know.

12. Yes, like the NYT and all the other major newspapers who wouldn't have to keep publishing corrections if only they did some fact checking BEFORE they went to press.

And speaking of people pretending to be journalists, let us know when you find a real journalist (one that hasn't been fired or demoted) in this country.

Judith Miller? Wolf Blitzer et al?

Our Top Journalists do such a great job of journalism that 40% of the American public still believe Saddam Hussein was responsible for 9/11 eg

Any comment on the OP or did you just want to issue that very factually flawed statement about journalism?

13. Well, Sabrina, off the top of my head, I would say Matt Taibbi and Seymour Hersh..

are very good journalists.

Certainly not the amateur hour of East County Magazine.

Remember this breaking story...

http://www.democraticunderground.com/1002271555

So, tell me again how factually flawed my statement is.

^^ah, yes, the oblate spheroid's "American soldier killed in Syria" crunchy scoop.

14. Sy Hersch is a very good journalist, but he doesn't seem to around much anymore.

Matt Taibbi and Jeremy Scahill are also good journalists, but not in the MSM.

What is flawed about your comment is that it implies only Nadin's small, local newspaper makes errors.

Even the post you linked to doesn't even begin to compare to the 'errors' or outright lies told by the NYT and most of the MSM regarding WMDs in Iraq eg. We are not talking about a spelling error here and there.

Those lies helped get this country into a tragic war which we are still, and will be for a long time, paying for in human lives and our standing in the world, not to mention the financial cost.

Small publications where people generally are not paid much, do a service to their communities and if they make a few minor mistakes comparatively speaking, we can deal with that and still appreciate them.

And of course, there is the fact that despite the now numerous complaints from DUers, the same small group continue to harass this poster. How about just skipping threads of people that you are clearly bothered by for some inexplicable reason?

^^but if one can't take the heat, stay out of the press-room.

10. Thanks for the story, Nadin. She got caught, I wonder how many we don't know about?

Aside from the crime itself, when they do this kind of thing, they destroy the trust people place in them.

11. El Cajon is a special case, there is so much dirt.

But in this case, she literally resigned from one day to the next, and we all went... WTF?

Then the FBI has a case came out and everybody went... tripple WTF.

I feel sorry for her mother, serious. It was not easy on her. And who wants to see their little smiling kids grow up to plead guilty to anything? And these are serious white collar crimes.

Hey I learned something too... mail fraud also involves private carriers now.

7. And she'll claim she did it for the good of the community -

After all, she did get some big-name stars (that required big-name fees) and some great floats for the ailing community Mother Goose parade a couple years running.

She had some really big plans for El Cajon, but it always seemed to be flipper type improvements (Add granite counter-tops, crown molding, new carpet and paint type...). I haven't seen a lot of real improvements - like jobs, livable neighborhoods, working cleaning up the empty lots and storefronts, and bringing back the small manufacturing that left a couple decades back. Which is sad, as El Cajon had some of the most affordable business licensing and fee programs in the county back a decade, but they've raised fees significantly to make up for the serious fail of their short-sighted real-estate/development consortium.

Sad, used to be a halfway decent sleepy farming/small manufacturing community. Now it's all mini-malls, apartments and storefront churches. (And the Creationist Museum.)

8. She pleaded guilty

We are left with sentencing.

All she said was "yes Your Honor."

She already pleaded guilty.

I suspect that this s first offense and all that...she will do time, but not the max possible.

If served concurrent she's looking at 20 max, if consecutive 23.

We all fell sorry for her mother to be honest. It was not easy on her.
