Back in the '80's a buddy of mine had a German shepherd that rode with him on his Harley. Would go everywhere with him. One day he wiped out on the hog and got killed ,the dog somehow was unharmed except for a limp. The dog wouldn't let the paramedics near my buddy to check him out. Someone shot & killed the dog. Was a big bruhahaw over why they killed the dog instead of tranqing it.
It is said that branches draw their life from the vine. Each is separate yet all are one as they share one life giving stem . The Bible tells us we are called to a similar union in life, our lives with the life of God. We are incorporated into him; made sharers in his life. Apart from this union we can do nothing.

Found the grave by smell I would guess.  Picked up the scent of those he know that that walked to the grave.    The pine box most likely used in the burial burried less the 6 feet under would have emited oders the dog could detect.

I can amagine it takes awhile for decomoision to finish and once the smell stopped the dog stayed at the grave site waiting for the smell to come back.--  Sort of like a dog that waits at the window awaiting you to come home from work or vacation.
