My return letter to the bill collector
Dear Sir or Madam:
I am in receipt of your collection letter. Since I have no assets because I had to default on my condo and I have been unemployed for the last 18 months I welcome you to try to collect on something that is not there. You see, I have run through all my savings so there is no there.
I'm sure I'll soon be living under a bridge since my landlord will have to evict me. So I'm going to have to send you a forwarding address in the near future. Of course it will be a picturesque view from under a bridge or overpass. I look forward to housing my belongings in a shopping cart.
Best regards,
Dave
There are a couple of responses suggesting that even acknowledging the debt was an error in judgement, and then there's this:

4. Ouch, that's a good point. Never considered it.

But you still can't get blood out of a turnip. If I only had a job they might be able to garnish my wages. But since I'm pretty close to being destitute they can only run down my credit score and that isn't likely to have much effect now. I am not planning on applying for a home or car loan anytime soon. So frankly I wish them to go pound sand.

I know the credit card company sold the debt to a collector. And that collector will be happy to hound me to the ends of the earth.

Yes, I know auto insurers hike your rate if you don't have a sterling credit score. Despite the fact there is no science linking a risk for the insurance companies and their having to pay out claims. I have always had sterling performance appraisals usually a 4 or 5 on a scale of 1 to 5 but perspective employers tend to discriminate against me now that I've had some bad luck.

They seem to think I'm a risk.
perspective = measured assessment of situation.    Well DUmmy, I think their 'perspective' is accurate - you ARE a  risk, but it isn't discrimination
This too shall pass.
