So not only was she a cop and an EMT she was also a dispatcher. Amazing. I can picture her answering the phone when it rings, "911, what's you emergency"? The caller says, "I'm being attacked by Chuck Norris, 50 members of Ultimate Fighter, and an assault team armed with full-auto weapons". The Noracle responds, "Let me grab my knife and I'll be on my way to save the day!!!!"

I bet she was also an astronaut.

My hero. She is so proactive that doesn't even wait for the fat signal to light up the sky. Always scanning the airwaves, ever vigilant, listing for that faint cry for help.

I suspect Vlada Mitty's one of these nosy, snoopy types who has a radio police-scanner on top of her television set, and on the dashboard of her motor vehicle.

I dunno about anybody else--such equipment's widely used around here--but I always thought such was bad manners, intruding, snooping, nosing around, looking through the key-hole.  I don't think non-law-enforcement civilians should be allowed to own such things.

Of course I realize that's probably perhaps a minority opinion here, but whatever.

I think Vlada Mitty's a snoop; has to have her nose in everything even if it's not her business.

I have a scanner and listen to it on weekends. My dad is a firefighter (he's the Fire Chief now) and I grew up listening to scanners. A few years ago, a sugar refinery blew up; I heard the call over the scanner. I know it can be considered nosy, but it's just something I'm used to.

The local police and fire recently went digital, so I can no longer hear them(a digital scanner is around $300.00). I can still hear some of Chatham county (Savannah), though.

Ah there are days, all those skills once thought to be non important... are coming to the fore once again.

On a funny thing, just put the shooting vest in the drier. The poor thing had a shall we say, au of smoke to it. In fact, intense, so it had to be washed. But if this other fire becomes major (as in actually put actual structures at risk), well it will be smelly again. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My best guess is she is talking about her *photographer's* vest.  There were several threads where she mentioned the need for washing hers, the things that were in the pockets (including squashed energy bars), and so forth.

I nadined *photographer vest* and got all sorts of links for supplies for photographers, and then nadined *shooter's vest* and lo! everything that came up had to do with shooting, as in weapons of various sorts.

Gnads gets her mind wrapped around a term that she likes, and the reader is expected to figure out what she means, even if she is the only one using that term in relation to whatever her conversation happens to be.

I think it is part and parcel of her inflated arrogance.
