We were damn lucky

Last night we went to cover the Chihuahua fire in the back country. So as we are in the middle of this our breaks started to stick, as in major stick. Well, we are thinking to ourselves, new pads, due to distance maybe a drum.

Nope, took it in the morning to my mechanic... nothing more fun than a master cilinder that was failing. (For the mechanically not inclined, we could have lost breaks)

Where were we? Literally in the boondogs...
I have a question or two.

Where are the boondogs?

Do small trucks have both "break" pads AND drums? I seem to recall brake shoes w/ drums, and disc brakes having pads.  Could be wrong, failing memory and all that.

Since Nads is talking to an audience that she deems "mechanically not inclined", are we to assume that she is, and if so, should 'Master Mechanic' be added to the resume?

There were only two options for gender. At last count there are at least 12, according to libs. By that standard, I'm a male lesbian.

My pickup has brake shoes and brake drums on the rear axle and brake pads and rotors on the front wheels.

Talk about sticking brakes, you should have been around years ago when semis didn't have the "spit valve" on the air system to clear the water from the system. You had to manually open a valve on the air tanks to drain the water out of them. Being lazy, forgetful or stupidly negeleting to drain the tanks in freezing weather could, would and did have sitting in the road/yard/stoplight all locked up....and the were a pain to thaw and out and loosen up. It usually didn't have to happen to a fellow but once to learn his lesson.

But I'd rather have that problem than no brakes.... Disney World has no thrill rides like a 60 mph, 100,000 pound missile needing to stop and no brakes.

I am imagining Nadin in a truck with NO brakes... :-)

This is the first mental image of nadin that has been pleasant.

Now if only a certain someone known for posting you tube comments could find a clip of a truck going over a cliff, this thread would be perfect.

What the hell is a master cilinder?  Does it have anything to do with the breaks?   :lmao:

I think it's something you smoke out behind the dumpster while on break.

Anyhow, since we actually took a few more risks than we realized at the time, enjoy the photo.

A DUmmy questions the breaks issue

Your time out was sticking, lunch period, recess?
How does a relaxing cessation from work stick, and why would you be taking a break in a fire?

Maybe we're over thinking this thing. We are assuming that the boondogs is a place. I had originally thought that it may be located in the boondocks of Bumf*ck, Egypt, but maybe the boondogs are actual dogs. The Noracle says that they were literally inside the boondogs. Maybe she got eaten by a boondog. Poor boondog.

boon 1 |boōn|
noun
1 [usu. in sing. ] a thing that is helpful or beneficial : the navigation system will be a boon to both civilian and military users.
2 archaic a favor or request : may I have the inestimable boon of a few minutes' conversation?

boon 2
adjective
(of a companion or friend) close; intimate; favorite : he debated the question with a few boon companions in the barroom.

I don't think she's claimed to be a singer or songwriter yet. You may have just given her a new idea for a past occupation.
