I don't know when paper towels became popular; I suspect it was sometime in the 1960s.

Without them, my grandmother's and mother's kitchens were as safe and clean as any today.

Today's incredible level of germophobia causes huge unnecessary expense.

Howard Hughes would be proud.

Paper towels are nice for convenience, but they sure aren't necessary for cleanliness.

I must divest you of the broad brush. I'm far from a germophobe. This is just my thing and everyone has them. My mother has used paper towels as long as I can remember and she's in her 60 s. I remember my grandmother using tags. Honestly I think sometimes we survived in spite of our habits years ago and not because of them. This is one of those times. And anyway I hate puking. I just hate the feeling of being dog ass sick like that enough its an incredible deterrent for me lol. It's one of the reason, The sickness and puking, i have 3 kids instead of say 6. Like I said. Just my thing.

I can remember my grandmother using a cloth hand towel to wipe down counter areas, but she also used ammonia or bleach diluted with water. When I was single I used alcohol, but that was only because I would spill it sometimes.
