HENRY A WAXI\44N, CALIFORNIA,
CHAIRMAN

Jvne22,2007

Mr. John Hofmeister
President
Shell Oil Company
P.O. Box 2463
Houston, TX77252-2463

Dear Mr. Hofineister:

I am writing regarding a request from Rep. Dennis Kucinich for the issuance of a
subpoena from the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform to Shell Oil
Company for testimony before the Committee's Subcommittee on Domestic Policy.
Chairman Kucinich seeks this testimony as part of the Subcommittee's investigation of
how the temperature-based expansion and contraction of gasoline is, or is not, accounted
for in retail sales in the United States. I understand from Chairman Kucinich that Shell
Oil Company refused his request to provide a representative for testimony at his first
hearing on this subject, held on June 8, 2007.

The pricing of gasoline affects millions of American consumers and businesses.
Shell Oil Company plays a significant role in the U.S. gasoline market, and the
perspective and knowledge of your company regarding pricing issues relating to gasoline
temperature changes is critical to the Subcommittee's ability to obtain a complete
understanding of this matter. I would like to avoid the necessity to issue a subpoena. For
this reason, I request that you make available a senior official of Shell Oil Company with
relevant knowledge for testimony at the Subcommittee's second hearing on this issue, to
be held the week of Julv 16 or Julv 23.

Please contact me or Kristin Amerling of the Committee staff at 202-225-5051
before June 29 , 2007 , to confirm the availability of a witness for the Subcommittee's
hearing on this important issue.
Sincerely,

Henry A. Waxman
Chairman

so this has been going on for a year now... with Kucinich and Congress threatening a company, while also tying their hands at the same time.

brilliant!

i heard some of Hofmeister's testimony this morning on Rush's show and he told Congress (who seems to know less than me about gas issues) that gas companies in the US only provide 6% or less of our oil and gas to our own country.

we need to follow this one and see what Congress does.. after they sue OPEC...  :whatever:

I heard the testimony too.  It was stunning.  I'm sure it stopped a few democrat hearts.  The days of the domocrats bringing their intended victims before congress and grilling them to the point of the poor victims pissing their pants IS OVER!

Nothing is the same as it use to be for the democrats.  The media is not theirs to mold.  Every lie they tell is exposed on the internet within minutes after it is uttered.  The nation has lost the sense that the democrats are the alpha and the omega of all things political.  Businesses aren't quaking in their boots and acting shamed at every bogus "inquiry".

Yes, all things considered, much progress has been made.  The democrats will never again gain back the power they once (and foolishly still do) took for granted.

Next time, I'd wait for a subpoena. Screw these bastards. Who are they, nobles or something?

i think youre right. with the internet we can look things up and remember what was said, and the Liberals cannot stop us.

i think they have lost control of their Congress and are making so many bad decisions, one after another... i think its McCain's to lose at this point.

it looks like it took almost a year to get Shell Oil to pay attention to them... and once the president of Shell Oil starts talking, they probably want him to shut up.

i hope O Reilly and Hannity start squawking about this for weeks to come... the public will sit up and take notice if they play this Oil president's Congressional testimony every night for days on end, til the country finally gets it. Rush is already on it and has not let up.

lets hope the Dems are going to be crucified over this..

He was also a warmer when warmers weren't cool.

He was also a gun controller until Katrina woke him up......regardless of how "independent" he claims to be, he is just another obnoxious New York liberal......and having lived there for a while, I can certainly recognize the type.

He lost me as a viewer when he decided to throw in with the MSM on the "Swift Boat Vets" during the 2004 cycle, as he claims to be a pal of Kerry's.....

Okay, I've posted this more than once but here goes :-)

I also think that the president of Shell (and any other oil co.) needs to march into Congress and say, "you're taking X dollars a year in taxes already. Just how much more money do you think you need?!?!"

Here are some comments from Shell's president. http://www.conservativecave.com/index.php/topic,6548.0/highlight,oil.html

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

Some of the very samethings can be said about the media too. 60 minutes isn't the terror it used to be when people used to hate seeing Mike Wallace or whoever show up at their office.

Some of them seem to think so it appears.

True.  Now they laugh and point.
